When you’re spending a day in Magic Kingdom, you’re going to want to fuel up.
There are a LOT of attractions to ride and sights to see, so you’re gonna be hungry! One (frankly underrated) spot you could stop in is Jungle Navigation Co., Ltd. Skipper Canteen in Adventureland. This table-service restaurant is a DELIGHT of punny humor and we stopped in for a quick bite!
Skipper Canteen is a restaurant based on the theming and world of the Jungle Cruise attraction, so you know it’s got some serious humor behind it. It’s known for adventurous dishes, funny Cast Members, and elaborate theming. Oh, and it’s got SECRET menu items sometimes — like today!
We stopped in for a light dinner and found out there’s a new appetizer on the Secret Menu — Pork Satay Skewers. We opted to snag those (duh), plus another favorite secret menu appetizer of ours and a special beer!
Let’s start by taking a look at those new Pork Satay Skewers. These are available for $13 and they look pretty darn tasty.
The dish is made with grilled pork in a soy-ginger sauce alongside a slaw made of lettuce, carrots, and pickled onion.
And how did it taste? Fabulous! There was a nice char on the meat and it was very moist. Whenever we order pork, we worry it might be a little dry but that was not the case! We also loved the slight sweetness from the ginger with the saltiness from the soy. AND the slaw had a great crunch!
Now, for a total favorite of ours, also on the secret menu — the Pao de Queijo. Yep, that’s cheese bread. Color us stoked. This app is available for $12.
You’re looking at little balls of cheesy bread served alongside a poblano cream cheese and chimichurri sauce. POBLANO CREAM CHEESE?!
These are SO good. We loved the sweet sauce with the slight heat from the pepper cream cheese. We don’t think it was too, too hot so even those who are spice-aversed might enjoy it! The bread was super doughy although not as cheesy as the Pao de Queijo we’ve had at EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival.
Finally, we had the Kungaloosh beer for $9.75 which is exclusive to Disney. It was very good! It’s on the dark side but manages to be a good beer for those who are looking for something a little adventurous but not too much so.
A visit to Skipper Canteen and some eats of its secret menu tends to be a delight. As always, stay tuned to DFB for the latest updates from Disney World and beyond!
