What’s Going on With the PeopleMover in Disney World? The Saga Continues

So…is the PeopleMover opening or nah?

Rise and Shine, Tomorrowland!

This week, it was announced that the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover’s refurbishment of over a year was finally coming to an end this weekend. We spotted updated hours for the attraction on the Disney website, and upon talking to Cast Members, were told that today might be the magical day. So, we were at Magic Kingdom bright and early this morning to scope out the situation for ourselves.

When we got to the park, we headed straight for Tomorrowland to see what was going on. We saw PeopleMover ride vehicles being tested on the track but were still greeted by the refurbishment signs stating that the attraction is closed.

Not today!

Cast Members began to make their way to the front of the ride as it came closer to the park’s opening, which seemed like a hopeful sign.

Soooo is it happening??

The familiar PeopleMover welcome loop was playing, and we even spotted the loading ramp moving! All signs were pointing to the ride opening, but once park opening came at 8AM…nothing.

From our spot in line, we saw social distancing markers laid out through the queue, as well as on the ramp going up to the loading platform — another sign it’s almost ready to open.

6ft apart, please!

At one point we did spy a maintenance team up on the tracks, but we weren’t quite sure if that was a good thing…or a bad thing.

We’re ready!

Although Cast Members weren’t able to confirm what time the ride would open, people were getting in line just in case. At around 9AM, we heard that the PeopleMover will NOT be opening this morning. Cast Members shared that it could open in the afternoon or even tonight.

Still waiting juuuust in case

While we saw some testing first thing in the morning, it stopped after a bit, and the ride isn’t moving anymore, as of this writing. Testing has not resumed in over an hour since we have been watching.

Taking a break 💤

While we don’t have a very obvious answer on when the ride will reopen, we’re still hoping to get our chance to take a ride around Tomorrowland sometime today! We will cross our fingers that today will be the big day, and in the meantime, we will keep you updated on anything new we learn. Stay tuned to DFB!
