Much news has come out of Florida recently, regarding the way the state plans to handle vaccine passports, social distancing guidelines, and its current state of emergency. As a way to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, many businesses throughout the country have been utilizing temperature checks. Now, Florida’s Orange County has shared an update about their use.

Dr. Pino, the Director of the Florida Department of Health in Orange County, stated that the use of temperature checks is not recommended right now. These remarks were shared during a recent county meeting.

Dr. Pino expressed that although temperature checks create a sense of security, they essentially don’t make a difference. Late last year, the CDC conducted a study to see if temperature checks were successful in detecting COVID-19, and determined that “Symptom-based screening programs are ineffective because of the nonspecific clinical presentation of COVID-19 and asymptomatic cases.”

Dr. Pino went on to say, “It’s a lot of resources for business[es] and other places just to have one person taking temperatures. So, again, temperature control measures are not recommended at this point.
