A Magic Kingdom Coaster Will Close For Refurbishment SOON

Disney World’s 50th anniversary is THIS YEAR! We’re getting so close!

Cinderella Castle

Disney has lots of plans in store, but to get prepared, lots of shops, rides, and more are getting a refurb so that they look their best for the special occasion. The Main Street Confectionery is currently undergoing a HUGE refurb, and the PeopleMover finally (!!!) reopened after a super long refurb, but now a favorite Magic Kingdom coaster has been added to the refurb calendar.

One of the best challenges to complete is the mountain challenge in the Magic Kingdom where you conquer Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in one day! Well, this challenge won’t be possible for a few days in June, because Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is closing for a refurb!

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

According to the refurbishment calendar on The Walt Disney World website, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will close on June 7th.

©Disney

Don’t worry though, because the refurbishment appears to be super short! It looks like the refurb only goes through June 12th. It’s super quick, but if you’re visiting Magic Kingdom that week, be prepared to skip this ride.

©Disney

On June 13th, it is no longer on the refurb calendar.

Short refurbishments usually mean quick touch-ups or regular maintenance, so it’s not likely that we will see any major changes to the attraction during this time. We’ll continue to keep you updated on refurbishments in the Disney Parks, and we’ll let you know if the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad refurb changes at all!

Guests disembarking the ferryboat without masks

It’s a historic day at Walt Disney World, as news came late yesterday that masks would no longer be required outdoors starting today. With these changes comes a much different feeling at the parks. Today, we’re visiting Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom to see what it’s like and how guests are reacting. Our morning started with a lack of temperature screenings, which ended a day earlier than originally announced. With the face covering policy changes, having maskless guests in […]

“Tulsa’s Buried Truth” Shines Light On Forgotten Moment In History

Tulsa’s Buried Truth is part of ABC’s docuseries Soul Of A Nation, a series that dives deep into the history and current events of black culture. The special focuses on the Tulsa Race Massacre, a massacre that impacted many, but somehow stayed deep within the shadows of American history.   The Greenwood district in Tulsa, Oklahoma […]

We’ve been visiting all of our favorite attractions in Disneyland after the park reopened last month, and today we got a chance to see what changed at Star Tours in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. PHOTOS: More Track Laid as Work Progresses on Walt Disney World Railroad at Magic Kingdom

walt-disney-world-railroad-tron-2

The Walt Disney World Railroad has been closed for over two years now, as it has been rerouted due to TRON Lightcycle / Run construction. Work on the tracks near the coaster continues to pick up steam, igniting hope that the work might be complete in time for Magic Kingdom’s 50th anniversary celebration in October. In April, our update centered on the laying of these synthetic railroad ties. Now the area near the Fantasyland station has more railroad tracks being […]

PHOTO REPORT: EPCOT 5/16/21 (World Showcase Without Masks, Updated Safety Signage, Slow Construction Progress, and More)

Maskless Guests in World Showcase

Good morning from EPCOT! After yesterday’s initial steps toward returning to a maskless Walt Disney World, it’s time to check on the second oldest park. EPCOT is the home to walking and eating, an activity which is allowed once more. In addition to the face covering changes, physical distancing mandates were also recently reduced. As part of that, spacing in parking lots seems to have ended this weekend. Upon entering the park, we noticed a sword had made its way […]

PHOTOS: MAJOR Physical Distancing Changes at Disney World’s Rise of the Resistance

A LOT has changed in Disney World lately!

Millennium Falcon

On Friday, Disney announced that face masks would no longer be required in outdoor areas (with a few exceptions). We’ve seen plexiglass start to disappear on certain attractions, and some shows have reduced physical distancing, but now one of the most popular rides in all of Disney World is seeing some changes!

If you have not experienced Rise of the Resistance, there may be a few spoilers in here so beware! We rode the attraction tonight and noticed two MAJOR changes from what we’re used to.

Rise of the Resistance

First of all, the pre-show room with Rey and BB8 no longer has physical distancing dots on the ground. The Cast Members instead told guests to keep moving and fill in all of the available space.

Ground Markers Missing

We did not see dots on the ground before you enter the pre-show room either.

Pre-Show Room Floor

Another major change is that there are no dots on the ground or plexiglass in the transfer ship that follows the pre-show room.

Plexiglass is Gone

Instead, guests are able to stand wherever they’d like.

Transfer Ship

There were still dots on the ground when we went through the First Order corridor and the prisoner cells.

Distancing Dots

There is also still plexiglass on the ride vehicles themselves.

Ride Vehicles

These changes are pretty huge for one of Disney World’s most popular attractions! We’ll continue to keep an eye on them and let you know if anything changes!
