Disneyland Capacity May Increase as Orange County, California Enters the Yellow Tier

For months, we’ve been monitoring the reopening guidelines in California and seen how Orange County, where Disneyland Resort is located, has progressed through California’s reopening tiers.

Most recently, Orange County was in California’s Orange Tier, but now things are changing in a way that could cause increases in capacity at Disneyland.

According to the Orange County Register, California’s Orange County will be moving to the yellow tier under California’s reopening guidelines tomorrow, May 19th.

According to state data shared by the OCR, the “number of cases per 100,000 resident had reached 1.5 and had remained below the threshold of 2 cases per 100,000 for the required two weeks,” allowing Orange County to move to the yellow tier. California’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy website already shows the county to be in the yellow tier.

What changes will take place under the yellow tier? Well, some businesses will be cleared to reopen indoor service or expand their attendance, bars that don’t serve food will be able to allow a certain number of guests inside, and museums, zoos, and aquariums will be able to go from 50% capacity to full capacity.

When it comes to amusement parks, like Disneyland and others, they will be allowed to increase capacity from 25% to 35% under the yellow tier.

Under California’s theme park reopening guidelines, in the yellow tier theme parks can also allow indoor dining to go from 25% capacity to 50% capacity.

On Monday, Dr. Mark Ghaly, the Secretary of Health and Human Services in California said that California’s rules requiring that masks be worn indoors will stay in place until June 15th. That’s the date when California is expected to fully reopen.

As of right now, Disneyland has not yet announced that it will be increasing park capacity as a result of Orange County entering into the yellow tier, but we will be on the lookout for more updates about that.

Disneyland Paris Has a New Opening Date

Disneyland Paris has announced a reopening date of June 17, 2021.

Disneyland Paris closed to guests back in March of 2020 before reopening briefly in July of 2020. The theme park was forced to close again months later due to worsening COVID infections in France. The park was supposed to reopen again in February of 2021, but that was postponed several times.

According to Reuters, 30.3% of people in France have received at least one dose of a vaccine, and 13.4% have been fully vaccinated.

We also wanted to let you know that while the England and France Adventures by Disney is currently offering departure dates beginning in July of 2021, the Disneyland Paris enhancement, which can include up to 6 nights at Disneyland Paris, can be booked for dates beginning in January of 2022.

Also, Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel is set to open on June 21, 2021. This new hotel has 25 suites that are themed to Spider-Man, the Avengers, and other Marvel superheroes. There is also a Marvel Design Studio where guests will be able to learn what’s involved in becoming a comic book artist.

REVIEW: You Can Find Better Versions of These Disney World Pastries Elsewhere

Looking for breakfast on the go when you’re in Disney World? There are plenty of options to choose from in the parks and resorts!

Contemporary Grounds, the Joffrey’s location at the Contemporary Resort.

You can pick up quick items like the Cinnamon Roll at Gaston’s Tavern in Magic Kingdom or some pastries from Les Halles in EPCOT. You’ll also find Joffrey’s and Starbucks locations all around the property, so there are usually quite a few choices there. The other day, we picked up a quick bite from Joffrey’s, and in true DFB fashion, we just had to share our thoughts! 😜

At the Joffrey’s location at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, you can snag yourself a quick bite on your way to the parks, which is especially convenient for breakfast time. We stopped by to grab two of their pastries the other day — the Lemon Pound Cake and the Croissant Doughnut.

Looks pretty good to us!

The Lemon Pound Cake was a pretty decent size for the price of $4.99.

It’s a pretty big hunk of pound cake!

It was moist, rich, and heavy — all things that are good for a pound cake, but ultimately we think that the Starbucks version is a little better.

Read our full review of the lemon pound cake here!

We had similar thoughts about the Croissant Doughnut, also priced at $4.99. We expected this one to be pretty dry going in, but we did get a little bit of butter right at the end of the bite. It wasn’t knock-your-socks-off delicious or anything, and we’d probably skip this one in favor of the regular doughnuts at Joffrey’s.

Flaky, but pretty dry nonetheless.

Neither of these treats was “bad,” but we do think that there are better versions in other places, especially with a bakery case full of goodies at Contempo Cafe and a Starbucks next door in Magic Kingdom. If you’re really hungry and you find yourself at the Joffrey’s cart, you might want to try them out. Other than that, we recommend holding out for something more exciting.

That’s some THICC cake.
