The Most Underrated Disney World Sidekicks According to Our Readers!

There are SO many amazing Disney characters that it’s hard to choose a favorite. But we all have our faves, right?

Pascal Hunt

There’s no doubt we all love Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto, and Goofy — the fab five never disappoint, nor do the princesses. But there are plenty of other Disney characters that aren’t MAIN characters. Instead, they’re the fun sidekicks, and they often get overlooked!

No two sidekicks, though, are created equal. And when we asked you about which sidekick characters you thought were overrated, you had some serious opinions on the matter.

First up? Kronk! And 77% of y’all told us Kronk was underrated and we LOVE you for that! We love Kronk, and not just because of those spinach puffsThe Emperor’s New Groove is a film we think is vastly underrated, and yes, we want Disney to open a Mudka’s Meat Hut restaurant.

Kronk is underrated!

Next up is the cutest little chameleon ever. That’s right, we’re talking about Pascal. And 79% of you think Pascal is underrated. We would agree because he’s Rapunzel’s best buddy! At least we’re starting to see more of him turning up at Disney World!

Pascal is TOTALLY underrated

Sure, the star of Aladdin is literally Aladdin, but where would he be without his faithful companion, his pet monkey Abu? And y’all must agree with us because 74% of you think Abu is underrated!

Who doesn’t love Abu?

Oh, dahlings, it’s interesting what you thought about Incredibles fashion designer extraordinaire Edna Mode. The voting here was a LOT closer. Only 68% of our readers thought dear Edna Mode was underrated. Is it the “no capes” thing?

Was it the ‘No Capes?’

We’ll admit that we watch Mulan a lot, and mostly because of that plucky and hilarious dragon that’s always hanging around her. We LOVE Mushu, and it seems you do, too, and obviously, we need more of him. A whopping 76% of DFB readers think Mushu is horribly underrated. You bring honor to your family name, DFB readers.

Mushu is THE dragon

There are a LOT of sidekick characters in Beauty and the Beast, but who doesn’t love Lumiere, who — quite literally — lights up the room when he enters it? And he knocks it out of the park when he sings “Be Our Guest,” right? And 73% of you think Lumiere is underrated.

LOTS of love for Lumiere!

Forget Ariel, is the real star of The Little Mermaid actually a little crab named Sebastian? He’s always got Ariel’s best interests at heart, all the while running away from a chef who wants to cook him. Perhaps that’s why 72% of you voted Sebastian as underrated.

Sebastian rules under the sea!

Uh-oh. It looks like some of our readers are a little Frozen‘d out, and we get it. The movie — and Olaf — are EVERYWHERE. But we love that adorable little snowman, all the same, but only 58% of our readers think Olaf is underrated. That’s pretty close!

Sorry, Olaf.

We have to admit that this one really surprised us. Tinker Bell is almost as Disney as Mickey Mouse, but she was very close to being overrated with our readers. Only 59% felt Tinker Bell was underrated. Pretty close!!

Tinkerbell is almost overrated? Wha?

It seems a lot of us believe in letting our conscience be our guide, and our conscience thinks that Jiminy Cricket is VERY underrated. In fact, 72% of you believe Jiminy Cricket deserves a lot more attention. And honestly, we agree!

Jiminy!

So who wins the most underrated sidekick award of all time? It’s Pascal, followed by Kronk as a close second! And in the end, you didn’t seem to think any of these characters were completely overrated, although you were close with Olaf and Tinker Bell. Now if only we could get more Pascal and Kronk merchandise, right? Oh, well…we’ll see if Disney is paying attention.

In the meantime, keep checking back because we’ll post even more results from polls — we love to hear what you think!

You’re Not Looking HERE For Disney World Secrets. But You Should!

Disney World is absolutely chockful of hidden details and secrets.

Cinderella Castle

There are things about the parks that absolutely BLOW our minds (and they’d probably shock you too!). Many a Disney fan has spent time looking for hidden details and secrets, but you’re probably not looking HERE to find those Disney World gems… You wouldn’t believe some of the hidden secrets you can find in Disney gift shops!

Memento Mori

Let’s start by taking a look at Memento Mori in Magic Kingdom. Memento Mori is the Haunted Mansion-themed gift shop located near the attraction and it is one of our favorite shops in all of Magic Kingdom. It might be one of our favorites in all of Disney World!

Memento Mori

Just like the Haunted Mansion ride, Memento Mori is FULL of amazing treasures and hidden details. We recently spotted a bottled spirit sitting high on the shelves and boy, did it give us a fright!

How appropriate for the Haunted Mansion gift shop! Seriously though, look around and spot some of the amazing details in this shop. Did you know this shop is themed as Madame Leota’s home from when she was alive? That’s why you can spot that portrait of her!

Madame Leota Sipper Cup

And that’s not the only visage of Madame Leota either, you might spot her spectral form gazing back at you in the mirror. (But only if you time it right! Seriously…keep watching. It’ll happen. 🙂)

©Disney

See what we mean? Memento Mori has some of the neatest details around!

Click here to learn more about the bottled spirit!

Sir Mickey’s

One of our favorite details in all of Disney World is located in Sir Mickey’s of Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland. This spot is uniquely themed after the “Mickey and the Beanstalk” short from 1947.

Sir Mickey’s at Magic Kingdom

You’ll spot the beanstalk growing all through this store (quite fittingly, we might add), but you’ll want to look up across from the main entrance for an (ahem) GIANT surprise. Willie the Giant from the short is peeking through the roof and into the store!

Sir Mickey’s

Once you spot this you’ll be shocked you never noticed him spying on the customers before!

Dok Ondar’s Den of Antiquities

The collector’s store in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a veritable treasure trove of hidden details and Star Wars references. Seriously, there are a LOT of easter eggs in this shop; you just have to pry your eyes away from Dok-Ondar himself to see them!

Otherworldly Taxidermy

Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities pays homage to Star Wars films old and new. You can spot a golden bust of Jar-Jar Binks, Han Solo’s pistol, a Dianoga (trash compactor creature, FTW), a Wampa, and an animatronic baby sarlaac.

Madalorian’s Armor

Our favorite detail though is that you can actually spot the Mandalorian’s helmet on the wall from the Disney+ series that hadn’t even debuted when Dok-Ondar’s opened!

Want to learn more about Dok-Ondar’s? Click here!

Bonjour! Village Gifts

Bonjour! Village Gifts recently reopened in the New Fantasyland section of Magic Kingdom. This spot is a great place to snag Disney-themed arts and collectibles and, of course, Beauty and the Beast merchandise

Bonjour! Village Gifts

There is one face inside Bonjour Village Gifts that has some hidden meaning though. You may notice a portrait of a smiling fellow in a feathered hat on the wall.

See it all the way in the back??

That’s actually the likeness of Phil Holmes, the then-Vice President of Magic Kingdom.

Want to see a reopened Bonjour! Village Gifts? Click here!

Tomorrowland Light and Power Co./Mission Space Cargo Bay

This next detail is less one that has to do with the theming of a shop and is actually a pretty unique merchandise item you can snag at spots like Tomorrowland Light and Power Co. in Magic Kingdom and Mission Space Cargo Bay in EPCOT. Notice something in common?

They’re both space stores and we’re talking about REAL SPACE FOOD!

Ice Cream Sandwich

You can pretend you’re on a grade school field trip to the museum and pick up ASTRONAUT ICE CREAM at these spots. This is freeze-dried ice cream and yep, it’s a little on the unique side. But hey, it might be worth a try once. (Some of us actually kinda really love it!)

Click here for our REVIEW of Astronaut Ice Cream! Yes, really.

Chester and Hester’s

Let’s take a spin over to Disney’s Animal Kingdom to stop by Dinoland, U.S.A.’s resident merchandise stop, Chester and Hester’s! This is one of the more fun stores in all of Disney World due to its kitschy, dino-fueled design.

Chester and Hester’s

Take a look around and in a certain corner, you may even notice some photos of Chester and Hester themselves when they opened the “service station” you’re in AND you can spot them in their golden years!

Tower Hotel Gifts

Anyone who’s a fan of a certain scary Disney World ride knows that there’s one GREAT place to look for hidden easter eggs in Disney’s Hollywood Studios — The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror! There is a LOT to see in this haunted hotel — even a notorious ventriloquist dummy hiding near the exit.

Tower Hotel Gifts

Tower Hotel Gifts (the resident merch spot) has some details of its own. For one, you can spot the closed not-in-service elevator with a posted dinner menu nearby.

The Sunset Room

And the pumpkins in the window displays show that the hotel was celebrating Halloween during the fateful lightning storm!

To learn more about Tower of Terror, click here!

And there you have it! Next time you’re exploring the shops of Disney World, don’t forget to look at those details you CAN’T buy. As always, stay tuned to DFB for the latest Disney updates!
