PHOTOS & REVIEW: A Snack Spot at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Has Reopened!

With Disney World increasing capacity and things getting busier in the parks, we’re starting to see more restaurants and snack spots reopening!

Terra Treats has reopened

Recently, we’ve seen reopening dates for Cape May Cafe at Disney’s Beach Club Resort, and we’ve got word on Tusker House Restaurant reopening at Disney’s Animal Kingdom soon. But today, we were present for the reopening of a snack spot at Disney World!

Terra Treats at Animal Kingdom has officially reopened! And we were there! We noticed hours on the Disney World website a few days ago, but we can confirm this snack spot is open from 11AM-3PM daily.

Reopening

The first thing we noticed is that the menu is very limited. For food, all you can get now is a Tomato and Cheese Pizza Slice and a Pepperoni and Cheese Pizza Slice. Several beverages are also available, including beer, soft drinks, and water.

Menu

We decided to get the Pepperoni and Cheese Pizza Slice. This pizza slice is nice and thick. We thought it was pretty much a copycat of Little Caesar’s deep dish pizza. It also had that greasy thing going on…

Piiiizzzzzaaaa

…and you know what? We LIKED it. Considering that some pizza at Disney World is just mediocre, this just wasn’t that bad — it hit the spot when we were hungry. It’s certainly not the BEST pizza we had at Disney World, but it’s a quick way to get a filling meal, especially if other spots are super busy. Pizzafari is currently acting as a relaxation station and doesn’t serve food at the moment, so this is a good place to get your pizza fix.

Pepperoni and cheese

Overall? We’d eat this pizza again. And for $6.49, it’s also not a bad deal. We’re keeping an eye on all the reopenings at Disney World, so stay tuned for more updates!

REVIEW: Another Unique Kit Kat Flavor Has Appeared in Disney World!

We LOVE checking out all of the Kit Kats available in EPCOT’s Japan Pavilion! Sometimes we come across some super unique flavors!

Mitsukoshi has walls and walls of snacks!

Mitsukoshi is the place to find all kinds of Japanese snacks and candy right in the World Showcase. In fact, it can be a little overwhelming to take in everything at once. One thing’s for sure: the store has a history of featuring Kit Kat flavors that we haven’t seen before! We tried out a new one, and we’re here to let you know if it was hit or miss!

Previously, we’ve reviewed some other fun Kit Kat flavors, like Strawberry and Ocean Salt! This time, we got our hands on the Roasted Green Tea flavor.

Hmm… We weren’t sure what to expect!

Honestly, the brown color of the bag isn’t all that eye-catching compared to some of the previous cute packaging we’ve seen. But we didn’t judge a book by its cover!

Break me!

As for the flavor, we weren’t super impressed. It tasted like a burnt, smoky tea, but in chocolate form. Honestly, not our favorite, but if you like tea or coffee, you might like this treat. We also took a look at the ingredients and noticed something a little unfamiliar: tofu refuse. We weren’t sure what that was, but after some research learned it is basically just powdered soybeans!

Speckles of Roasted Green Tea

So unfortunately, the Roasted Green Tea flavor was not our favorite Kit Kat flavor we’ve had, but you might like it depending on your tastes! Maybe the smoky tea flavor will appeal to you, but it didn’t do it for us. We will keep an eye out for more flavors and hope that we get another good one soon!

Mitsukoshi is Even More Iconic Than You Might Think! Click Here to See Why!

3 Super Weird Things We Bring To Disney World — And Maybe You Should Too?

DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission.

For non-Disney trips you might be able to pack pretty simply — regular clothes, shoes, toothbrush, etc. But when it comes to Disney, sometimes all bets are off!

When we’re headed here, we OVERPACK!

Even we can often find ourselves packing a LOT of items because we want to be prepared. We’ve already shared a packing list, a list of 12 essentials you need in your park bag, and a look at some of the things even the pros forget to bring to Disney World. But, today we’re focusing on some of the things we pack for our Disney trips that might be considered a bit…well, weird!

There are a few things that we pack that some might consider unusual. BUT we’ve found these items to be SO handy that we think you might want to consider packing them too! So, without further ado, let’s dive into 3 SUPER weird items we pack in our suitcases that you might want to add to your next Disney World packing list.

Glow Sticks

You know those Glow Sticks you can get at the dollar store or off of Amazon? Those of us on the team with kiddos will pack DOZENS of them. Why? Well, here’s the thing — when it hits nighttime in Disney World, all the vendors typically come out with the cool glowy merchandise.

You might not see as much of them now since fireworks are temporarily suspended, but you’ll still find some glowing items available in the stores and around the parks. Generally, that merchandise IS not cheap. And trust us when we say your kids (or you) WILL want it.

Glowing Banshee wings — do NOT let your kid see these.

If your kid sees one of those glowing Mickey wands — just know that that’s going to set you back AT LEAST $20. They DO look cool — we won’t argue with that — but is that an expense you really want to budget for? That $20 could be spent on food, merchandise that they’ll use more frequently at home, or other things around the parks.

So, instead of dropping some serious $$ on some pricey glow items, you can get some relatively inexpensive glow wands at your local dollar store or Amazon and whip them out once it starts getting dark.

It’s a Portable Party! ©Amazon

You can even sometimes find Disney-related glow items at lower prices if you look for them (we’ve seen them at Walgreens!). This is a win/win situation. You save money, but your kids (and everyone else in your party) can still get in on the excitement of glow wands. Just because you’re trying to save money and budget for your trip, doesn’t mean you can’t still have fun!

Pro tip: if you place some glow sticks on your stroller at night, it’ll be SO much easier to find the stroller when it gets really dark. And the best part is these glow sticks usually don’t take up a lot of room and you can throw the glow sticks away at the end of the evening or once they’ve run out of glowing power, leaving more room in your luggage for other souvenirs.

Plastic Containers and Bags

Here at DFB, we’re all about the food (obviously, it’s in our name!!), and when it comes to leftovers, we do NOT like to throw them in the trash. Sometimes kids might not eat all of their food, or you and your adult friends will go a bit overboard when it comes to ordering one too many corn dog nuggets (we’ve all been there).

Time to EAT!

Let’s be real here, Disney food ain’t cheap! You do NOT want to be repeatedly paying $8, $9, $10, or more for snacks that only end up being a quarter eaten and then thrown in the trash. But you also don’t want to be forcing yourself to keep eating when you’re already full. Feeling uncomfortably full and then trying to ride Space Mountain is not really going to work out for you. That’s why we bring plastic/reusable containers and bags to Disney World!

Splash Mountain Ziploc

Plastic bags are good for things you don’t mind getting smushed, but we prefer to use some plastic containers to keep our leftover snacks in pristine condition until we can get to them later. Didn’t finish your chips? Got some leftover candies? Kids didn’t finish a few snacks? You can just throw them in your container(s), put that in your backpack, and then you’ll have instant snacks ready for later! You can even get Disney’s new reusable plastic bags and containers if you want to make your leftovers extra magical.

How about a Mickey food container!

We might not be able to eat all of that Carrot Cake Cookie because it’s pretty HUGE (okay, maybe we can eat it all, but let’s just run with this hypothetical for a second). There is NO WAY we’re going to let any of that yumminess go to waste on our watch. And there’s no way we’re going to spend lots of cash on Disney food and then have it go to waste.

Putting your leftovers in a plastic/reusable container or bag to save for later is great for so many reasons. You can still grab the snacks you want and not worry about having to finish them all in one sitting. You can enjoy the snacks over a longer period of time throughout the day. You can save some money by eating leftovers when you get hungry later instead of buying another snack. And you can make sure that the money you’re spending on this food and the food itself doesn’t go to waste. Wins all around!

Sound Machine

At Disney World’s hotels, you can experience any number of things when it comes to sounds. Sometimes, it can be surprisingly quiet in your hotel room at night, especially during slower times of the year. Sometimes you’ll hear a bit more action going on, particularly if you’re close to a busy part of the hotel like the pool.

Going to sleep in a hotel can be tricky if you’re not used to either the quiet or the sounds (even if those sounds are something as small as the particular sound of the air conditioning unit or something).

The Yacht Club Resort Can Get SUPER Quiet at Night

There’s also the issue of mornings, which can get VERY BUSY at Disney World hotels. Many families will get up early to get breakfast and hit the parks right as they open, which means there could be a lot of noise in the hallways. If you’re the type of person who prefers to sleep in a bit and get to the parks later, you might need something to drown out all of those sounds.

It is for all these reasons that we like to bring a Sound Machine to add a little ambient white noise to our space so we can fall asleep easily and/or stay asleep longer.

Be like the nap queen, Sleeping Beauty, and get a good night’s rest.

There are quite a few inexpensive sound machines available now that make general white noise sounds, ocean sounds, rain sounds, etc. And if you don’t want to invest in an actual sound machine, you can find some decent smartphone apps that will do the same thing (although, in our experience, the sound machines just sound more realistic, particularly with nature sounds).

It’s certainly a unique thing to bring with you, but if you’ve ever had trouble sleeping in a Disney World hotel, you may find that this will help. And there’s nothing better than getting a good night’s sleep after a long day in the parks.

Click Here to Buy a Sound Machine Online!

So there you have it — these are three things that we bring to Disney World that might be considered unusual. But they’re also very useful! Who knows? Maybe you’ll pack one of these on a future trip and it’ll become a staple item you won’t be able to vacation without!

We’ll keep working on developing more tips and tricks to share with you and hopefully help you have some spectacular Disney trips in the future. Stay tuned for more updates from us here at DFB!

Disney World’s Most Recent Construction Reveal Was…Underwhelming

We’re back with another construction update from Walt Disney World!

Cinderella Castle

Things have been BUSY around the Disney Parks and Resorts, to say the least! Between new paint jobs, more testing for new shows, and reopening stores, there has been a lot to keep track of! And, you may not believe the kinds of projects that Disney is willing to throw up some construction walls for. So, we’ve got a lot to cover — let’s get to it!

Magic Kingdom

Cool Ship

Disney has been preparing for the Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary celebrations in all four parks, but Magic Kingdom has been home to A LOT of projects. We’ve been watching as they continue to make progress on the refreshment kiosk, Cool Ship, for a little over a month now and it seems that we may be back to snacking on Mickey Pretzels under the cooling mist here soon!

Cool Ship walls are completely DOWN

All the construction walls have been taken down and guests can now get a break from the mid-day sun and find some shade here, though it hasn’t completely reopened just yet.

Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak

Over in New Fantasyland, Disney has been doing some repainting the Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak area. We noticed this week that the train’s face was uncovered and more areas were taped off for more painting.

Casey Jr. is looking quite vibrant

So, there’s still some more work to be done before this area will reopen for guests.

EPCOT

Harmonious

EPCOT has also been home to a host of construction projects, and one of those is the new nighttime spectacular coming to the park — Harmonious. When we were making our way around World Showcase, we noticed that there are new white tents surrounding the areas where work is being done for the show. It’s unclear what they’re for, but, hey, it’s progress!

Harmonious White Tents

We’ve also seen Disney do some testing on the large screens that will be used during the nighttime show, and we found that one of the screens was being tested this week and had turned pink.

Pink Screen

And, there was even MORE to check out later in the week — the arms that will eventually spray water were moving up and down on multiple barges in World Showcase Lagoon.

Doing some more testing!

There seems to always be something new to see here!

Here’s What Our Readers Think About the New Barges!

Pin Traders

Another EPCOT project wrapped up this week, so we headed into the reopened Pin Traders to check out what was new, and…we found nothing. WOMP WOMP.

Pin Traders

Instead, the change was actually just outside of the shop, as we noticed that the ground in front of  Pin Traders is now a pebble pavement instead of the smooth red that was there in the past.

New pavement!

So, yes, Disney did go through all the trouble of blocking off the ENTIRE walkway around Spaceship Earth just to give the pavement a (very) lil update.

Take a Closer Look at the Changes HERE!

Morocco Pavilion

Speaking of the ground, we noticed another change in the Morocco Pavilion on the pavement. It looks like Disney is preparing to redo the ground in front of and under the arches.

Looks like the pavement has had some scraping

This is the second construction project we’ve seen over in the Morocco Pavilion, and it’s nice to see it getting some TLC before the 50th-anniversary celebrations begin.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Na’vi River Journey

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is also undergoing some updates. We recently saw work being done near the Na’vi River Journey exit and there were some barriers surrounding one of the displays.

Na’vi River Journey Construction

And, when we went to check out what was being done, we noticed that bioluminescent paint on the ground was receiving some touch-ups and a few extra details.

Disney Resorts

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

Over in Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, they’ve blocked off an area in the back near Pineapple Lanai and Capt. Cook’s to remove a giant tree that once was there.

Lots of construction around the back!

And, around the front, construction continues on the monorail platform and room refurbishments.

Polynesian Construction

The hotel is scheduled to reopen to all guests on July 19th, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on any more progress.

Disney’s Contemporary Resort

We also checked in on the construction over in Disney’s Contemporary Resort and found that it looks just the same as when they first closed off half of the rooms for refurbishment.

Still looks about the same in here!

So, what was already considered a pretty loud resort has only become louder with all that construction noise.

Disney’s BoardWalk Inn

Bellu Vue Lounge at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn hasn’t reopened since Disney World welcomed guests back to the parks last summer, and it looks like they’re taking it as an opportunity to refinish the floors.

No lounging going on here!

We spotted some workers sanding down the floors and prepping for new stain this week.

Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa

And, last week we had noticed that some areas around Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa had been blocked off by new barriers for painting, and this week we got a look at the fresh coat! The resort exterior is looking brighter than ever.

The exterior is looking FRESH!

And, that’s a wrap on this week’s construction updates in Disney World! Be sure to catch us back here next week with more things you need to know for your next vacation!

PHOTOS: Physical Distancing Reduced at Hotel Pools, More Chairs Being Placed as Capacity Increases at Walt Disney World

disney-pools-371-9930755

With the announcement that Walt Disney World would be reducing physical distancing from six feet in some areas, we are seeing more and more changes in the past few days. At Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts, physical distancing seems to have been minimized at the Stormalong Bay pool. More chairs have been added to the pool deck, reducing space between guests who are lounging. Masks are also no longer required in most outdoor spaces at Walt Disney World, though […]
