One Of The Longest Shopping Lines at Disney World Just Got A LOT Shorter!

As Disney World gets busier, we’ve seen some longer wait times for attractions.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Marketplace

But we’ve also seen long lines for shops. There’s a small marketplace of shops at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios that is NOTORIOUS for long lines because of the area’s limited capacity (and its small space).

That has, however, changed. As we were walking through Black Spire Outpost today, we noticed a new sign in front of the Marketplace. This sign had a QR code to scan to check in for a virtual queue. FINALLY!

It’s about time!

Once you scan in the QR code on your phone, you’ll go to the Virtual Waitlist Sign-Up. Save your spot by clicking on “Join Waitlist.”

Virtual Waitlist Screenshot

You’ll then be prompted to enter your party size. You will also be notified of how many parties are ahead of you. Click on “Continue.”

Step 2

You’ll get a confirmation message with all your info.

Confirmation

You’ll also get a text message telling you to wait until a Cast Member is ready to assist you.

Text

You’ll then get an additional text when it’s your turn to shop! And then you’ll check in with a Cast Member. Today, we checked in with Grace!

Meet Grace

Once you’re checked in, the Cast Member will direct you to the Market (and there are signs, too). Although we were initially told it would take about 90 minutes to be called back, it took less than 40 minutes. This line used to be SUPER long and guests would have to wait in the hot Florida sun. With the addition of the virtual queue, guests can roam around the park while they wait for a text! We were very happy to see a virtual queue here, and it cut down our wait time a LOT.

Wait Here

And that’s it! No more waiting for hours in line just to browse through the Marketplace shops! This is very similar to what was previously put in place here for Dok Ondar’s Den of Antiquities. We’ll let you know if we spot any other virtual lines at Disney World!

Do You Know the Real Reason Behind This Disney World Hotel “Mistake?”

There are so many cool details you can spot all around Walt Disney World.

There are tons of cool things you can spot around Disney World!

From hidden Mickeys to movie references and everything in-between, the Imagineers have added so much extra thought into every inch of the parks and resorts! You can really see the evidence in the artwork around the resort, and today we’re sharing some tidbits that you probably didn’t know about a rather famous Disney mural.

If you’ve ever visited Disney’s Contemporary Resort, then there’s pretty much no way that you missed the GIGANTIC mural.

Have you ever seen this artwork at the Contemporary?

This area is known as the Grand Canyon Concourse, so the mural here was created to fit the name. It was designed by Mary Blair, the talented artist behind the concept art for many Disney films and the character designs for “it’s a small world.”

It’s a MASSIVE creation.

This is Blair’s largest mural ever, and it has been here since the resort first opened back in 1971. It’s made to look like a stylized interpretation of the Grand Canyon, complete with animals, foliage, and Native Americans.

Can you spot the Grand Canyon themes?

In her artwork, Mary Blair was paying homage to Southwest Native Americans, so she wanted to include one of their beliefs in her design. They believe that nothing made by man could ever be perfect since man is imperfect.

She wanted to include some “human error” in her design.

To reflect this belief in her mural, Blair included a 5-legged goat. It’s a reminder that human error exists and that people make mistakes in their artwork.

That goat has 5 legs!

Next time you’re at the Contemporary, make sure to look for that 5-legged goat and say hello, especially now that you know the meaning behind it!

Next time you’re here, check it out!

Stay tuned to DFB for more news, updates, and details from the Disney World parks and resorts. We’ve got a lot to share with you, and we’re grateful that you trust us as your Disney news source!

10 Dole Whip Flavor Combos You Need to Try in Disney World

Okay, so y’all know we are ALL about some Dole Whips at Disney World, right? There’s a reason this classic snack has been around as long as it has, after all!

Dole Whip

BUT…we’ve found that there’s so much MORE to Dole Whip life than the classic Pineapple Soft Serve most Disney World guests usually get. In fact, we’ve unlocked a whole world of Dole Whip flavor combos that might even make you forget about just having the pineapple Dole Whip by itself. And we’re sharing some of our favorites with you!

Just a quick note: Dole Whip flavors and Dole Whip-inspired treats tend to rotate out often at Disney World. So if you’re looking for something specific, make sure it’s available first!

Kakamora Float

We are IN LOVE with the Kakamora Float, which you can get from Aloha IsleAnd we were VERY sad when the parks reopened without it. It came back, though, and made all our pineapple coconut yummy dreams come true. It’s Coconut Soft-Serve on top of Pineapple Juice and Blue Curacao Syrup garnished with a chocolate Kakamora Cake Pop.

This float comes from heaven…

And the combination of all those flavors in this thing just knocks it out of the park. If you haven’t tried it yet — one sip is all it will take to fall head over heels with Dole Whip’s tasty Kakamora cousin. Oh, and by the way, we invented a boozy version that’s now on a Disney World menu!

And now we’re officially on island time!

You’re welcome!

Read ALL about the Boozy Kakamora here!

Pineapple and Coconut

The day we were able to swirl our Dole Whip with Coconut Soft Serve was the day all our Dole Whip dreams came true! The two flavors together are just PERFECTION in a cup.

We love you, coconut pineapple Dole Whip swirl, so so much

And you can get it now at Aloha Isle!

Read MORE about the coconut pineapple combo here.

Orange and Vanilla Ice Cream

Okay, so we love Creamsicle flavors, so mixing Orange Dole Whip and Vanilla Ice Cream is a yummy way to enjoy a treat that just tastes like summer! And we recently found a drink at Disney World that does this very thing — the Vanilla Orange Slushy Float!

Vanilla Orange Slushy

It was so good that we braved a storm for it! It’s sometimes available at Marketplace Snacks in Disney Springs.

Lemon and Lime

We drink lemon and lime sodas, so why not eat Lemon and Lime Dole Whips? We originally discovered this flavor combo at Storybook Treats at Magic Kingdom, but you can also grab it when those two flavors are available from Pineapple Lanai at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort!

Lemon AND Lime

This is one of those classic flavor combos you just can’t go wrong with!

Raspberry and Orange

Speaking of Pineapple Lanai, they have a rotating list every day of great Dole Whip flavors. But it was our lucky day when we managed to find both Raspberry and Orange. And you know what we did — we got those two flavors swirled! Not only did it look like a pretty sunset, but it tasted UH-mazing.

It looks like a sunset!

Sometimes our little food experiments work out great, and this was one of those times!

Mango Limeade

So this combo is SUPER rare, and there’s only one way to actually get the Mango Limeade Dole Whip. Currently, you have to attend the 2021 EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival and do the Garden Graze food stroll. There’s a list inside the festival passport of food you have to try and, for each, you get a sticker. Get all the stickers and your prize is this special Dole Whip!

Success!

It even comes in its own souvenir cup, too! But hurry — the festival ends on July 5th.

Read MORE about the Garden Graze experience here!

Dole Whip with Pineapple Cookies

So we’ve got another awesome food hack for you! It involves Dole Whip and the Pineapple Cookiethey have offered at Candy Cauldron in Disney Springs and the Confectionery in Magic Kingdom. We split the cookie in half to create two cookies and then we added that yummy Dole Whip on one cookie and put the other cookie on top like a sandwich (and this would work great with TWO pineapple cookies, too).

YUM.

Our Dole Whip Cookie Sandwich was perfection, by the way, and we highly recommend trying it out for yourself if you have the chance to grab that Pineapple Cookie!

Strawberry and Lemon

For fans of sweet AND tart, we give you the Strawberry and Lemon Dole Whip Combo. We tried these flavors together with the awesome Incredibles Dole Whip Float that was around in March. The float also had Black Cherry Lemonade, which took it up even another notch!

Check out that mask!

But we totally loved the combination of strawberry and lemon, so we’re hoping to get a chance to mix those flavors again!

Strawberry and Chocolate

Okay, so lots of people know that Strawberry and Chocolate are just two flavors that work, right? And they work even better as a Dole Whip, as we learned around Valentine’s Day and for Mother’s Day when Marketplace Snacks at Disney Springs came out with a swirl of Strawberry Dole Whip and chocolate soft-serve with a chocolate-dipped strawberry garnish.

A Valentine Treat

Yes, it was awesome. And yes, we’re bitter this was only for Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day because we would eat this all year round.

Coconut and Raspberry

We are BIG fans of the Coconut Soft Serve and we’ll mix it with just about anything, but one of our most genius moves was combining it with Raspberry Dole Whip. Because the Coconut and Raspberry together BLEW OUR MINDS. The tartness of the raspberry played so well with the understated sweetness of the coconut.

Raspberry & Coconut Dole Whip

Our only problem is that we couldn’t come up with a name for our creation: Cocoberry? Razznut?

So those are OUR favorite Dole Whip flavor combos, but we’d be curious to know what yours are, so drop us a comment and let us know!

PHOTOS: More Harmonious Barge Arms Covered in Decorative Screens as Testing Continues at EPCOT

barge-arm-scrim-4-5003242

Lately, it seems like there’s been a frenzy of testing as Harmonious continues to move closer to debuting at EPCOT. And while it may not be as visually exciting as all the fountain testing that’s been going on, more flexible screen has been added to the arms of the barges. On the barge closest to the Mexico Pavilion, the protruding arm has been covered in the same scrim material we have seen on the centerpiece barge. From a distance, it […]

PHOTOS: “Moana” Sand Sculpture Completed at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

moana-sand-sculpture74

Construction began last weekend on a new Moana inspired sand sculpture at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and now the work is complete! This sculpture can be found on the Discover Island stage in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. To the left, we see a sign letting guests know that the sand sculpture is inspired by Disney’s Moana. The bottom half of the sculpture features marine wildlife such as dolphins, fish, and sea turtles. In the middle of the design we spotted Moana’s boat! The […]

A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration at Disney World Is Now Seating More Guests

So much has happened at Disney World recently and it can be hard to keep track of all the changes! But that’s why we’re here, to make sure you stay updated.

Frozen!

So in case you missed it, you’ll no longer have to do a temperature check when entering the parks. You’ll also be able to walk around outside without a mask (with exceptions). Also, at least one ride has already removed its plexiglass, and we’re starting to see shows at Disney World seat more guests.

In addition to A Celebration of the Festival of the Lion King at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Walt Disney Presents: One Man’s Dream at Hollywood Studios, another show at Disney World has adjusted its seating arrangement to allow for more guests in its theater. That show is For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Singalong at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The queue

When we first entered the theater, we noticed that guests were still being seated in every other row. However, there were no distancing markers on seats, and guests were told to keep one seat open between groups (similar to what we saw at Walt Disney Presents: One Man’s Dream).

However, a little later on in the show, guests were being directed to fill the empty row in front of us, so it seems that they are filling every row, as needed.

Seating in every row

When the show is over, Cast Members directed guests to exit by row and told each row when they could leave.

Cast Members directing guests to exit by row

We’re going to be checking out all the shows at Disney World to see if this is how they are now doing seating, too, so stay tuned for updates.

The NEW Choice You Have to Make In EPCOT

While we whole-heartedly believe that every Disney World theme park and resort has some stellar food and drink options, there’s no place that steals our food-loving hearts quite like EPCOT. Between the countless dining locations around World Showcase and its four festivals throughout the year, it can sometimes feel like you can go several lifetimes and STILL have new snacks, beverages, and meals you have yet to try!

Just another beautiful day in Disney!

With all of that in mind, there’s a unique NEW dilemma you may encounter in EPCOT that you might not even be thinking about!

Simply put…WHERE do you choose to eat? And no, we aren’t talking about which restaurant specifically to try (although that could be a tough decision in and of itself!). We’re talking about the choice between a sit-down or fast food meal around World Showcase, or snacking around the festival food booths!

2021 EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival Passport

Since EPCOT is essentially a year-round festival park these days with this year’s Food and Wine Festival starting all the way in mid-July, you’ll almost always have the option to dine at one of the many festival booths scattered around World Showcase (and even a few in Future World). There’s PLENTY to eat at the EPCOT festivals, and it’s pretty easy to eat the equivalent of a full table service meal after just a few booths.

Northern Bloom Booth

We’ve totally been there though — your head is bigger than your stomach and you book that dinner or lunch reservation AND plan to “eat around the world.” But when the time comes, you’re STUFFED! So if you only have one day in EPCOT, which do you choose for your meal plans: a traditional table service or counter service restaurant, or snacking around the festival?

Why you SHOULD dine at a restaurant or counter service location.

One of the great perks to eating at a traditional dining location in a theme park, especially a table service restaurant, is that you have a guaranteed “break” during your day. If you feel comfortable dining indoors, you’ll also have the opportunity to enjoy some air conditioning in the middle of what could be a hot day in the parks.

Le Cellier

When you’re dining at the festival booths, you may wind up hunting down open (standing) tables all afternoon, not to mention the lines at the booths, the sun, the heat, etc. By choosing instead to skip the festival dining and eat your meals at a restaurant, you’re building in a nice chunk of time in your day where your party can kick back and relax (breaks are super important, especially in the summer!).

Spice Road Table

The downside (potentially) here is if you’re looking to maximize your day. Sitting down for a lengthy table service meal is bound to eat up at least an hour, likely closer to two of your day at most spots. That’s time you’re not riding rides or experiencing other aspects of the park. If you’re looking to squeeze every drop out of your day, avoiding sit-down meals might be more your style.

Prepare to be here at least an hour or so!

Depending on where you dine, you could also wind up experiencing a more “bang for your buck” at a traditional dining location as opposed to the food booths. EPCOT restaurants can definitely get pricey, but the portion sizes will also be much larger than the snack-sized dishes at the festival. Even costing around $5-10 each, the festival food portions are pretty small and costs can still add up quickly if this is your meal for the day.

We liked these shrimp from Festival of the Arts, but the serving was pretty small!

Plus, sometimes you just want easy and reliable. You might not want to risk potentially not loving the unique festival tacos at the booth in Mexico, but you might know you love the kind of tacos sold at La Cantina de San Angel. Same applies to other dining locations. If you’re a pickier eater and want to plan your meals around foods you know you’ll like, you might prefer sit down or fast food restaurants.

We Enjoyed this Pork Tostada…but Will You?

This applies extra if you have kids with you. While there is a lot of food kids will enjoy at festival booths (they note on menus foods kids will typically enjoy!), if you have a pickier eater, don’t count on them filling up at the booths. The foods tend to be slightly more adventurous (the fests are a time to show off their coolest food, after all!), and you might find your kids complaining “I don’t want anything from here!” at each booth!

Frushi is a kid favorite at the Flower and Garden Festival

In contrast, even at the more adventurous restaurants in EPCOT, you’ll still often find chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, and other more basic kid-favorite foods. If they’re not on the menu, just ask your server.

Why you SHOULD snack around the festival booths.

The biggest benefit to dining at the festival booths is that you have MUCH more flexibility in choosing what and how much you want to eat. If your party is in the mood for different cuisines, it’s more convenient to allow everyone to grab snacks at whichever booth they desire.

Moroccan Seafood Couscous with Shrimp, Mussels, Olives, Preserved Lemons, and Anchovy Breadcrumbs

Plus, you can start and stop eating at any time! You aren’t bound to a specific menu or time of day that you’ll be dining — rather, you have much more freedom in choosing your culinary adventure that day. Think of it like grazing. You can nibble or sip leisurely as you make your way around World Showcase. It’s a nice way to be contently “full” without feeling stuffed all day!

The Honey Bee-stro

The freedom of choice has another huge benefit — you’ll have more control over how much you wind up spending on food. You’ll just have to be careful that you don’t get carried away with buying every festival dish you see, or this could wind up becoming a more pricey investment! Disney World restaurants can get pricey, and the festival dishes are often a fraction of the cost (granted, the portion sizes are smaller, as we mentioned, but if you aren’t a heavy eater, this could be a benefit!).

Orange Bird Sipper

Festival dishes run on average between $5-$10 for many items, plus you may find a few desserts for less than $5 these days.

Hanami Booth Menu

If you’re a more adventurous eater, the festival booths may be the way to go. Since Disney can “experiment” a little more during the festivals, you’re more likely to find dishes that you wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to try!

Frothy Ramen at the 2019 Food and Wine Festival

Like traditional dining at EPCOT, eating at the booths can have its drawbacks. For starters, almost all of the food booths are outdoors, leaving you with not all that much opportunity to escape the Florida heat while you dine. You’ll be huddled around a small standing table or juggling plates with your hands at most of the booths!

Food & Wine Seating

These days, with physical distancing and limited park capacity, it may be difficult to find a table to stop at so you can eat your food. If you’re running around World Showcase with your hands filled with food that’s either getting cold or melting, it can be a bit stressful finding a table!

In general, if you prefer the freedom to sample the foods and drinks you like over the course of the day, sticking with the booths can be a great (and surprisingly filling) option.

Why not have the best of BOTH worlds?

If you’re visiting EPCOT during a festival, it’s entirely possible you can enjoy the food booths PLUS dine at one of the park’s great restaurants. That’s a lot of food, but if you space out your meals, you may have better luck enjoying the best of both worlds!

Minnie’s ready to celebrate!

Either grab an early lunch reservation in World Showcase and then snack your way around the festival for dinner (the festival runs the same hours of the day as World Showcase is open in EPCOT, so you’ll be able to visit the booths up until park closing). Or, vice-versa, start your snacking around World Showcase early for lunch and enjoy a more relaxed, seated dinner in the evening.

Chefs de France

If you’re a Disney World veteran and visit multiple times, you may find that one festival caters to your palate more than others. If you’re looking for more hearty dishes, then the Festival of the Holidays may be when you choose to dine at the festival booths more frequently.

Kālua Pork with Okinawa Purple Sweet Potatoes and Mango Salad

If you’re more in favor of dishes that are on the lighter side, or you’re looking for more fruity or floral flavors, then the Flower and Garden Festival may be more up your alley. Be sure to check out our coverage of all of EPCOT’s festivals to see which one may be best for you.

Warm Asparagus

Keep in mind that the EPCOT festivals are way more than just the food booths (although that’s obviously the main draw). There’s also entertainment, merchandise, cooking demonstrations, and decor around the parks!

EPCOT Festival of the Arts

Eating at every food booth you see is certainly one way to do the festival, but it’s not the only way! You can enjoy a dining reservation at one of EPCOT’s restaurants, and perhaps choose to eat dessert at a food booth, or just stick to drinks at the festival! The option is yours!

So…DO you have to choose?

If you’re staying at EPCOT from park open to park close, there’s no reason why you should have to choose between dining at the festival AND dining at the restaurants. You will likely find that there is plenty of time to do both and space out when you eat so you aren’t bogged down by all of that yummy food!

Hi From Festival of the Arts!

If you’re on a more limited schedule (especially if you’re Park Hopping all over the place), you may have to decide how to prioritize dining at EPCOT. If you’ve been to EPCOT a ton of times, maybe this next trip is the one to try something new and check out the festivals!

Plant-based Macaroni & Cheese

Or, if you know your party needs that break during the day, you may want to consider grabbing an Advance Dining Reservation at a restaurant and perhaps grab dessert or a drink at one of the booths.

Seasonal Red Wine

There are countless ways to “mix and match” your EPCOT festival experience, so definitely check out our coverage of the festivals, make sure to read our Best of the Fest lists, and consider picking up our DFB Festival Guides for comprehensive information and tips!

Physical Distancing Reduced At ANOTHER Disney World Show

What a weekend, right? We’ve seen SO many changes at Disney World over the past few days.

One Man’s Dream

Temperature checks are no longer being done at the entrances of the parks. The plexiglass on a very popular attraction has been removed. Masks are no longer required outdoors (with some exceptions).

In addition, we recently noticed that the newly-reopened A Celebration of the Festival of the Lion King at Disney’s Animal Kingdom had altered its seating arrangements. There, guests are now being seated in every row, albeit staggered. Today, we noticed a similar change at Walt Disney Presents: One Man’s Dream at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Walking into the theater

After Disney World reopened, the theater’s seating had every other row blocked off. After every four seats, three seats were blocked off to keep groups socially distanced. Here’s what it looked like then:

Walt Disney Presents Seating Before

Today, though, no rows are blocked off. (As you can see, it was pretty quiet this morning.)

Rows are no longer blocked off

The blocked-off seats are also gone. Now, an announcement is made as guests enter the theater informing them that one seat should remain empty between groups.

No blocked off seats

This new seating arrangement will allow the theater to seat more guests for each showing. We’re also keeping an eye on other shows throughout Disney World to see if this is happening elsewhere — we’ll be sure to keep you updated.

Our BRAND NEW Secret Tip For Getting the Hardest Reservations in Disney World

Planning a Disney World trip can be tricky!

Main Street, U.S.A.

After you figure out your hotel and Park Pass reservations, you’ll want to make dining reservations for the sit-down meals you’re hoping for. And you don’t need us to tell ya that can feel impossible sometimes! We’ve given you plenty of tips to help you snag those hard-to-get Advance Dining Reservations, but sometimes, they fill up before you can grab a spot. Luckily, we’ve got a pretty cool trick for you to try!

Lately, Disney World’s been in the habit of extending their park hours. This typically happens a couple of weeks out from the affected dates. And with these extensions, we’ve seen park time extended up to 4 hours! That’s a LOT more time to play in the parks, guys.

Tower of Terror

You may be thinking about how many more rides you’ll be able to hop on, but there’s a hidden bonus to these added park hours. And that’s dining reservations, friends! When park hours are extended, dining reservations are added for those “new” hours. And they tend to be wide open for a bit!

The Crystal Palace at Magic Kingdom

We’re gonna paint a picture for ya. Let’s say you’re struggling to snag a reservation for Oga’s Cantina in Galaxy’s Edge (trust us, we’ve ALL been there.). And let’s say Disney’s Hollywood Studios just announced that their park hours for next Monday changed from a 7PM closing to an 8PM closing. As SOON as you hear about that change, you should go to Disney’s website and try to grab that reservation for sometime between 7PM and 8PM.

Galaxy’s Edge

Of course, that’s a totally theoretical scenario, but you can imagine how this little hack could play out in all sorts of different scenarios. Wanting breakfast at Cinderella’s Royal Table? Grab one when Magic Kingdom’s morning hours are extended! Dinner at Be Our Guest? Book for extended evening hours!

Be Our Guest

This trick is SO quick ‘n’ easy, but it does require you to keep a close eye on Disney World’s park hours. And it does require timing. More reservations may not be automatically released. The restaurant may close before the park. There are plenty of scenarios that can mess this up. But it’s totally worth the try!! And luckily, we update you every time those change here at DFB! Stay tuned so you know exactly when to grab those tough reservations. And we’ll keep bringing you lots more Disney news, too!
