REVIEW of the NEW Hot Dog Menu at Fairfax Fare in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Hey there DFB readers, we’re back with another restaurant review!

Let’s EAT!

We’ve dined at every restaurant in Disney World, but we make sure to visit again and again to bring you the most up-to-date details and info. That’s especially the case when a restaurant reopens, and today we’re headed over to Hollywood Studios for such an occasion!

Fairfax Fare on Sunset Boulevard has officially reopened to park goers, and we’re thrilled to be back to enjoy our meal with a view of the hustle and bustle. Let’s get this thing started!

Atmosphere

This spot is located in the middle of Sunset Boulevard, the home of Tower of Terror, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, tons of shops, and a few other quick service dining locations. This little stand isn’t overly impressive or anything really special, but the big “pro” here is that you can grab your food and plop down at a bench with the perfect location for people-watching.

Y’all ready for this?

If you plan on dining here, Mobile Order should be your go-to. There’s a sign out in front of the stand with the ordering information, or you can find it listed as one of the choices in the My Disney Experience app.

Don’t know how to pull up Mobile Order? Check this sign out!

We placed our order in the app and were notified once it was ready. Today was a soft opening, so there weren’t any menus up at the restaurant, but we had quite the selection once we opened Mobile Order.

©Disney

After you pick up your food, the condiments (like ketchup) were available in individual packets.

If you want ketchup…they have PLENTY.

We found a table nearby — the perfect spot to enjoy our meal. We’ve got quite the spread, now don’t we?!

Not gonna lie, this is a ton of food.

Now that we’ve got our food, drinks, and a comfy place to sit, it’s time to chow down!

Eats

Let’s kick things off with the Chicago-style Hot Dog Plant-based Salad for $11.49!

We’ll start light with a salad.

This salad is made with a plant-based bratwurst, Romaine lettuce, sweet pickles, tomatoes, poppyseed and celery seed brioche croutons, pickle relish, neon relish vinaigrette, sweet peppers, and mustard. That’s a LOT of ingredients, and boy does it look filling!

This plant-based brat was seriously good.

We were honestly surprised by how delicious the bratwurst was on this salad. The vinaigrette was nice and creamy, which worked really well with the many elements of this entree. This pick is basically all the fun of a hot dog but served in a more fun and creative way. It’s a really great choice for plant-based eaters!

Would we try this again? Heck yeah!

Now, let’s move on to the dogs…starting with the California BLTA Dog for $11.49.

That’s a lot of ingredients on one dog.

It’s an all-beef quarter pound hotdog with lettuce, tomato, avocado, and bacon — we’re talking actual BIG bacon pieces (YESS!). It’s also topped with housemaid black pepper mayonnaise and Cool Ranch tortilla chips, served on a brioche butter bun with pickled vegetables in a cup on the side.

This bun is packed with stuff!

Y’all. This was fun! It was really fresh, and the bacon and avocado mixed together was a big hit for us. The crushed chips on top added a little extra crunch, though we’re not sure the dog needed it. Same with the mustard. The household mayonnaise gave the hot dog plenty of flavor on its own, so it really didn’t need the mustard as well, but if you’re a big mustard fan you may appreciate that added flavor punch.

Not bad, my dude, not bad.

But, it’s also important to note those pickled vegetables specifically. They were pretty spicy (even without the jalapenos, they’d have some kick), but we thoroughly enjoyed them. Definitely a great way that you could take your dog to the next level.

Definitely say “yes” to the pickled veggies.

And if you thought that dog was crazy, just wait until you see the Truffle Bacon Macaroni and Cheese Dog for $11.49!

Cue mouth-watering goodness.

Served on the same brioche butter bun, you’ll find another quarter-pound hot dog, but this time it’s topped with macaroni and cheese and applewood-smoked bacon crumbles! This one also had mustard on top, but it made a lot more sense with the ingredients and actually added to the flavor profile as a whole.

They certainly don’t skimp on the pasta!

This Mac & Cheese Dog was definitely our favorite of the ones we tried today because it was all just paired so perfectly. The mac and cheese itself was served warm and SO creamy and that bun was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Every part of this dog just seemed to jive together really well!

This one’s definitely a crowd-pleaser.

And the last of the dogs was the Pretzel Dog for $11.49.

Remember when pretzel buns were super popular? Well, Disney’s bringing back the trend!

As you might’ve guessed, this dog is served on a pretzel bun! It’s topped with sauerkraut, which was probably our favorite part of the dog overall. The pretzel bun itself was pretty good, but it kept absorbing the sauerkraut, making it a little bit soggy by the time we finished.

It got a taaad bit soggy…

If you want a dog that’s more straightforward without all the ingredients of the other two, then this could be a solid go-to. The bun was covered in big, coarse pieces of salt (which we liked!), but in the end, we felt like it was just a tad too much bread for the size of the hot dog.

That bun is THICK.

If you like things a bit more scaled back, a plain hot dog is available as well.

Right now, the only side item available on the menu is the parmesan chips. They’re a pretty solid portion size for a side item, and they’re essentially house-made kettle chips with parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. But you know what? They were one of our favorites from the meal and we’d definitely recommend them to a friend! (Can’t go wrong with a good potato chip!)

Parmesan. Chips. Need we say more?

Now let’s discuss our drinks! There are a few different alcoholic beverage options on this menu, but the ones we chose to review today were the Tampa Bay Reef Donkey APA and the Bold City Duke’s Cold Nose Brown Ale.

We also ordered two drinks!

Our reporter really loved the APA, noting that it had a slight citrus flavor and was very refreshing. The brown ale was darker with caramel and chocolate notes, which definitely made it heavier. The person who tried it noted that it was smooth and enjoyable, but that they wouldn’t likely be able to drink more than one.

We’re getting some strong ballpark vibes here…

You can order either of these drinks for $10 each.

What was our final impression?

So, now that we’ve tried everything out, let’s break down our thoughts!

Nosh or Not

Drop by Fairfax Fare if…

  • You LOOOVE hot dogs and you want to try some outside-the-box options.
  • You want something that’s quick and easy to eat in Hollywood Studios.
  • You want a place where you can dine outside with a view of what’s going on around you.

Keep On Walking if…

  • You don’t like hot dogs. That’s pretty much the gist of what you’ll get here.
  • You want something a little more exciting or unique than a hot dog with atypical toppings.
  • You’re looking for a meal that’s relaxing, fancy, out of the heat, or at a table service restaurant. This one is for those who are on the go!

Overall

We genuinely enjoyed our stop at Fairfax Fare today, but let us tell you — that was a LOT of food! The prices are pretty typical for Disney World hot dogs and the options are fairly limited, but if one of these items, in particular, sounds like something you want to try, then we’d suggest placing a Mobile Order next time you’re in the area. It’s not really destination-worthy, but if you need a quick pick-me-up, it’s a solid choice.

GO! Park Passes Refilled for the Grand Opening of Avengers Campus in Disneyland!

Right now, to visit a Disneyland Resort theme park you need a valid ticket AND a theme park reservation (just like how things are currently being done in Disney World).

It’s Almost Time to Visit Avengers Campus!

In just a few weeks Avengers Campus will be opening at Disney California Adventure Park, and theme park reservations for that day had been filling up. But now things have changed! If you haven’t already gotten your park passes for the opening of Avengers Campus, NOW is the time!!

Earlier today, we took a look at the Disneyland park reservation availability calendar and things were looking very full in June for both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park for those with tickets allowing them access to 1 park per day…

What the Availability Calendar Looked Like Before | ©Disney

…and those with Park Hopper tickets.

Things Were Very Full | ©Disney

As you can see, the calendars for both of these ticket types were showing limited availability through June, and June 4th in particular was totally SOLD OUT.

But, we checked again later in the day and now the calendar looks very different! There is now a LOT of park reservation availability for both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park throughout June for both 1-park per day ticket guests…

Things Look Very Different! | ©Disney

…and Park Hopper ticket guests. There is even FULL availability to get a park reservation for Disney California Adventure Park on Avengers Campus’ opening day, June 4th, for both types of guests.

Lots of Availability! ©Disney

This availability could change again very soon, so we’d highly recommend that you get your park pass reservations NOW if you haven’t already, particularly if you’re thinking of visiting on Avengers Campus’ opening day! Just keep in mind that park admission at Disneyland is currently limited to California residents.

Important Park Hour Changes Coming to Tokyo Disney Resort Soon

Things at Disney World’s parks all around the world are constantly changing, especially due to the ongoing situation with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tokyo Disneyland | 2017

Right now all of Disney’s theme parks around the world have reopened, except for Disneyland Paris, which remains closed at this time. While Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea are open, things will soon be changing a little bit there in response to some COVID-19 measures.

Recently, Tokyo Disney Resort announced that the park operating hours for both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea will change soon. They noted that this is based on the “extension of priority measures to prevent the spread of New Coronavirus implemented by the Chiba Prefecture local government.”

Right now through May 16th, Toyko Disney Resort’s theme parks will be open from 9AM to 8PM. Starting May 17th, that will change to 10AM to 7PM. These modified hours will last through May 31st.

Tokyo Disney Resort

This is not the first time we’ve seen the parks reduce their hours in the past few months. Their recent announcement notes that theme park opening hours may vary by day though, so guests should check the Tokyo Disney Resort website for more details.

Sales of Early Entry tickets for guests staying at a Disney hotel will be suspended from May 17th through May 31st.

Just Looking at This Photo Makes Us Hungry for Popcorn

Tokyo Disney Resort has also issued an update regarding refunds on some tickets that were unused with fixed admission dates from July 1, 2021 through June 11, 2021. The website notes what ticket types are eligible for a refund or change, and also states that tickets that were purchased “or changed to a different fixed admission date, on or after May 11, 2021 will not be valid for a refund.”

They’ve also posted an update about the Park admission by lottery system. Specifically, the Tokyo Disney website now notes that if you’re not able to “visit the Park on the date of Park admission received in the lottery during the period when priority measures are in place to prevent the spread of New Coronavirus (from April 20 through May 31, 2021), then your next lottery attempt can be made from the month of scheduled visit in May (for June or July Park admissions).”

Cool Souvenirs!

If you’ll be visiting Tokyo Disney Resort soon, these are important changes to keep in mind.

Don’t Wait! Disney World Park Passes Refilled For Lots of Summer Dates!

Heading to Disney World this summer?

Be prepared to see lots of new friends on Main Street, U.S.A. with you this summer!

So far, it’s been looking like it’ll be pretty busy in the summer this year at the Disney World theme parks. Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen Park Passes steadily booking up for many days during the summer. But now lots of Park Passes have been restocked!!

A big thanks to our reader Joe (@schreiberjoe on Instagram) for alerting us to these changes! We took a look at the availability calendars earlier in the day and they were looking VERY full for many days this summer. But, as Joe noted, it looks like quite a lot of Park Passes were restocked later in the day. Let’s take a look at what the calendar looks like now!

May

We’ll start in May. For reference, this is what the calendar looked like this morning for Theme Park Tickets Guests and guests at Select Resort Hotels (their calendars were very similar in terms of availability).

©Disney

And here’s what the calendar for Annual Passholders looked like this morning. The calendars were all full of grey and yellow days.

©Disney

And here’s what they look like now for Theme Park Tickets Guests…

©Disney

…guests at Select Resort Hotels…

©Disney

…and Annual Passholders.

©Disney

The situation hasn’t really changed much for Annual Passholders. But, for both theme park tickets guests and guests at select resort hotels, many of those days that were previously entirely SOLD OUT now show Park Pass availability at least at some of the Disney World parks!

June

Now we move onto June. Earlier today, this is what the calendar was looking like for both Theme Park Tickets guests and Select Resort Hotels guests (they looked very similar).

©Disney

Now, this is what the calendar looks like for Theme Park Tickets Guests…

©Disney

…and Select Resort hotel guests.

©Disney

Those days that were once greyed out now appear to be yellow — meaning there is availability at least at some of the Disney World theme parks on those days.

When it comes to Annual Passholders, the entire month of June was previously green and it remains that way still.

©Disney

Of course, that is subject to change in the future.

July

Finally, we’ll take a look at July. Again, for reference, here’s what things looked like earlier for Theme Park Tickets guests and Select Resort Hotels guests (the calendars looked very similar).

©Disney

And here’s what they look like now for Theme Park Tickets Guests…

©Disney

…and Select Resort Hotel guests.

©Disney

While Park Passes for the Fourth of July are still booked for Magic Kingdom for those 2 groups of guests, much of the rest of the month is now fully available.

Annual Passholders previously had and still have full Park Pass availability throughout the month of July.

©Disney

Again, all of this availability is subject to change, so if you’ve been waiting to grab your Park Passes for this summer, be sure to book them now while there’s quite a bit of availability!!

And check out our video below to see what you should (and shouldn’t) expect in Disney World right now.

Virtual Queue Being Tested For Indiana Jones Adventure in Disneyland

According to The OC Register, Disneyland will begin testing a virtual queue for Indiana Jones Adventure: The Temple of the Forbidden Eye starting tomorrow. After reopening on April 30, Indiana Jones Adventure has been an attraction that is seeing a lot of foot traffic and that has created a few pinch points inside the queue. In an attempt to alleviate this issue, Disneyland has been using the upstairs Jungle Cruise queue as an overflow line for Indiana Jones Adventure. Of […]
