PHOTOS: Two Menus Posted for Unnamed Summer Food Festival at Universal Studios Florida, Starts Tomorrow

universal-summer-festival

Earlier this week, we noticed new tables and food booths popping up in Universal Studios Florida, pointing to a summer food festival coming to the park. Two menus have now appeared at food trucks in the park. This food truck is parked in front of Chez Alcatraz in the San Francisco area of the park. The “summer bites” include: 3 cheese classic melt: provolone, cheddar, pepper jack – $9.99 Smoky brisket melt: smoked BBQ brisket – $11.99 Vegan melt: vegan […]

Planning a Disney World Trip?! You Need to Know About These 14 Changes!

Just when you think Disney World can’t get any busier…it does!

Magic Kingdom

We started the year with a FULL year’s worth of announcements in January alone, but there was still LOTS of Disney news in February and March. April was certainly no exception, with the long-awaited reopening of the PeopleMover, and many transformations happening around the parks! Without further ado, let’s take a look at 14 new things that happened in Disney World in April!

The PeopleMover is FINALLY Back!!!

It feels like we’ve waited a whole lifetime for the PeopleMover to reopen, but on April 25th, it officially reopened to guests for the first time in over a year!!

Which part of the ride is YOUR favorite?

After Walt Disney World President, Jeff Vahle announced that the fan-favorite ride would be opening “later this weekend,” we lined up bright and early that Sunday morning to check out the reopening!

7 (!!!) hours later, the Cast Members officially opened up the ride to guests and we couldn’t have been happier! We even invited you all to take a ride with us. So on your next trip to the Magic Kingdom, go check out the PeopleMover for the first time in a long time!

Festival of the Lion King Will Open Next Month

Live entertainment has been very different in Disney World since it reopened. Several live shows remain closed like Finding Nemo the Musical and Beauty and the Beast Live On Stage, but this month we got some very exciting news about the Festival of the Lion King!

Festival of the Lion King

We knew the show at Disney’s Animal Kingdom would open sometime this summer, but it now has a reopening timeline of mid-May. That’s SO soon! The show is getting here just in time for summer crowds.

©Disney

The show will return with a new name: “A Celebration of The Festival of the Lion King.” Jeff Vahle shared details about this reopening too and said the cast is back in rehearsals and ready to perform for guests again. We’ll lookout for an actual return date for the show, but if you’re going to Disney World this summer, you’ve got another thing to look forward to!

Get more details about the return of Festival of the Lion King

Self-Serve Drink Stations Are BACK at Some Locations

Since Disney World reopened, self-serve drinks have been basically nonexistent. The stations were typically manned by Cast Members who would fill up the cup for you. Now, self-serve drinks are available at certain locations!

Self-serve Drink Stations

So far, we have seen this at Roaring Fork in Disney’s Wilderness Lodge…

No Cast Member here!

Satu’li Canteen in Disney’s Animal Kingdom…

Safety signs are still in place

and Regal Eagle Smokehouse in EPCOT. We’ve also noticed it at many other Disney World resorts.

It’s here, too!

The stations do note that only one party should use the machine at a time. We’ve also seen refillable stations at Blizzard Beach when it reopened in March, but this is the first time we’ve seen them not roped off and with a Cast Member for a long time! We’ll continue to see where this change is happening.

Disney Skyliner Crash

The Disney Skyliner is the newest form of Disney transportation, but it has its faults. The Skyliner can temporarily close or stop for things like lightning and technical difficulties, but in April the Skyliner had its 2nd gondola crash.

Skyliner Crash @nextstopmainstreet on Instagram

Luckily nobody was hurt, and Disney commented on the matter. We got to Disney’s Hollywood Studios Skyliner station after the accident occurred, and the line was down for just a couple of hours before it reopened to guests.

Disney Skyliner

We also got a look at some guests who were stuck on the EPCOT Skyliner line during this time. Each Skyliner gondola has an emergency kit with a few packets of drinking water, cool packs, a pencil and notepad, a whistle, a glow stick, and a few blue cups.

@pineapple.kaitlyn on Instagram

Overall, the crash resulted in some broken glass, but luckily nobody was hurt and the Skyliner was up and running pretty quickly. The last Skyliner crash was in October of 2019, where guests were stuck in their gondolas for THREE hours.

Cirque du Soleil Could Open in Disney Springs Soon

Cirque du Soleil’s new Disney-inspired show was scheduled to premiere in spring of 2020, but had been pushed back again and again. Now, though, we could be seeing the show in Disney Springs pretty soon!

©Disney

Drawn to Life, Cirque du Soleil’s newest show could open this fall according to the company’s CEO Daniel Lamarre. He mentioned that Cirque was working on a new opening date for the show and that they “should be able to open sometime in the fall.”

Drawn to Life Ensemble

Tickets were available for Drawn to Life a while ago, but they have remained unavailable since January of this year. Hopefully, we’ll get to see this brand new and unique show come to life later this year!

It’ll Cost You More to Customize a Lightsaber

There are many iconic experiences in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios like drinking in Oga’s Cantina, interacting with characters, or building a droid. But one of the most popular experiences is building your own lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop, and this month it saw a HUGE price increase!

Savi’s Workshop

Previously, a customized lightsaber would cost you $199,99 plus tax, but now you’ll have to pay $219.99 plus tax. Nothing from the experience has changed, just the fact that it’s an extra $20.

Inside Savi’s Workshop

The price increase applies to guests who booked their lightsaber experience after this change happened on April 19th.

Club Cool Will Return and New Creations Shop

As you’ve probably noticed, EPCOT is going through an ENORMOUS transformation. In April month, we got two major updates about what we can expect to see in the parks this summer!

Spaceship Earth

First of all, you’ll be able to torture your friends with Beverly again because Club Cool is RETURNING! Yay! This experience originally closed as part of the EPCOT transformation, but Disney has announced that it will come back THIS. SUMMER.

Club Cool

Even though you can try lots of Coca-Cola products at the Coca-Cola store and rooftop beverage bar in Disney Springs, there’s nothing like trying soda from around the world at Club Cool!

Club Cool Sodas

We also got a sneak peek at what the new Creations Shop will look like! This shop will be replacing Mouse Gear as the park’s flagship merchandise location. The shop’s design is based on none other than Mickey Mouse, and you’ll see lots of unique artwork featuring him on the walls!

The Creations Shop is also set to open up this summer, and we are thrilled for these big steps in EPCOT’s transformation!

Rise of the Resistance Boarding Groups Just Got Easier

Rise of the Resistance is easily the most popular attraction in Disney World with two sets of boarding groups filling up every single day. The boarding group process has gone through several changes, but the latest change has made it way more convenient!

Rise of the Resistance

Before, you had to be physically inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios in order to get a boarding pass at 1PM. Now, guests can grab a boarding group from anywhere on Disney property if they scanned into the park earlier that day!

Rey says you can’t get in line unless you have a boarding pass

We put this new change to the test and it worked! If you wanted to tap into Hollywood Studios in the morning, go to lunch, and grab a 1PM boarding group, now you can!

See how we tested this Rise of the Resistance change here!

A New Service is Replacing Magical Express

In case you missed it, Disney’s Magical Express will be discontinued in 2022. This is the free service that Disney provides to bring Disney World Resort guests from Orlando International Airport to their hotel. We’ve recently learned that a new transportation system will replace Magical Express!

Disney’s Magical Express

While there are some other options to get from the airport to your resort, Mears released a statement indicating that they would continue to provide transportation services after Magical Express is gone. Recently, Mears introduced Mears Connect which will debut in January of 2022 and connect Orlando International Airport to the Disney Resort area!

©Mears

This service will be very similar to Magical Express, and you can book a reservation starting in May 2021! Pricing has not been released for Mears Connect yet, nor have any additional details about reservations been released. Even though the Brightline train from the airport to Disney Springs is in the works, we might have to wait until 2026 to use it. We can’t wait to get more details on this new transportation!

More information on the new Mears Connect!

The Jungle Cruise Transformation Has Begun

A few months ago, Disney announced that the Jungle Cruise in both Disney World and Disneyland would get a new storyline. Well, that transformation has already begun in Disney World!

Jungle Cruise

This Adventureland attraction is staying open to guests while it undergoes these changes. It was announced that the changes would happen this year, but Disney did not share a specific timeline.

We’ve already said goodbye to Trader Sam

…noticed some small details missing

Hello, new paint!

…and a huge scene from the ride is gone to make way for the new characters coming to the attraction!

No more porters!

So far we’ve seen a lot of things get taken away, but we have yet to see many additions. We’ll keep you updated when new scenes/characters get added to the attraction!

A Major Mask Requirement Has Changed

As you probably know, mask policies have been pretty strict in Disney World since its reopening. However, one of the mask rules in the parks loosened up a bit this month.

New Mask Policy

Now, guests are able to take pictures outdoors without their masks. Previously, all guests had to keep their masks on for any photos. You must still keep your mask on for indoor photos.

You Can See the Guest Holding Their Mask in Their Hand

During the photos, guests must be stationary and socially distanced from others. This rule applies for PhotoPass and for pictures you take yourself. Guests must wait until they are in the spot they want to pose at, and then they are allowed to remove masks.

How the New Maskless Photo Policy Works in Disney World

One Health & Safety Measure is Disappearing

One of the health and safety measures that Disney World added prior to its reopening is hand-washing stations. Now, they are starting to disappear in Disney World!

Former Hand-washing Station Location

We noticed this change in quite a few locations, and Cast Members said that they are not sure if the hand-washing stations will return. Disney still offers hand sanitizer all over property, but we were surprised to see these stations disappearing!

Resorts Are Getting Some BIG Makeovers

We’ve all heard a lot about the huge Moana-themed renovation at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, but some other Disney World resorts are getting some TLC too! Disney’s Wilderness Lodge will look pretty different on your next stay, because the rooms have gotten a makeover before it reopens on July 6th.

©Disney

Compared to before, the headboard is a LOT different, the bedding is white, and the maroon details are gone. The carpet is also replaced with hardwood floors. The curtains are patterned, but have much lighter colors than before. The TV is now attached to the wall, with a chest of drawers underneath.

Much lighter hues now.

Disney’s Contemporary Resort is also undergoing some major construction! Just check out what the lobby looks like!

Check out the construction!

The construction scrim covers various hallways and room areas on one side of the Main Tower. Disney has not shared exactly what this refurbishment entails, but we’ll let you know when more details are released!

The Eye Sore in EPCOT is Complete

EPCOT is in the middle of a major transformation, and that includes a new nighttime spectacular called Harmonious! This show will come from 5 barges on World Showcase Lagoon, and now all of the barges are out!

Harmonious Construction

We (and many other people) aren’t exactly fans of the view across the lagoon anymore because these barges are HUGE and can be an eyesore. But we hope that they will make the show so incredible that it’s worth it!

5th Barge

There is no current premiere date for Harmonious, but we have seen the barges testing movement and water features.

The Ugliest EPCOT Transformation is Complete

Well, there were a LOT of updates in Disney World this month as we inch closer to the 50th anniversary! We’ll be back to round up the biggest news from May at the end of the month, but in the meantime, we’ll continue to keep you in the loop on the latest Disney World news!

Review: Will YOU Make it in Time to Try Disney World’s Key Lime Pie Dole Whip?!

Happy (almost) Mother’s Day! We’ve already taken a look at some of the limited time Mother’s Day treats coming to Disney World and we’ve been trying a bunch of them and sharing our thoughts.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

This next Mother’s Day treat on our list brings us to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort for a limited-time Key Lime Pie Sundae with lime soft serve! This treat certainly sounds promising, but can it deliver?

We made our way over to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort earlier today to find out! You’ll find the Key Lime Pie Dole Whip Sundae over at Pineapple Lanai from now until May 9th.

Key Lime Pie Dole Whip Sundae

This treat is made with lime soft serve, graham cracker crust, blood orange mango jam, and topped with a piece of white chocolate. It’s also got some crunchy white chocolate pearls and a tropical flower on it, and the white chocolate piece has the word “Mom” on it — how sweet!

Isn’t it pretty?!

We’ve had lime Dole Whip many times in the past, in the form of the ‘Olu Mel Soft Serve, Yoda Cone, the Heart of Te Fiti Cone, or just on its own! The Lime Dole Whip is one of our FAVORITE Disney treats, so we’re really happy to see it incorporated into a new offering.

Lime Dole Whip?! Yes, please!

We REALLY loved this treat, guys. As always, the tanginess of the lime helps to balance out the sweetness of the soft-serve really nicely. Plus, there was a perfect amount of tartness!

YUM.

We also found the graham cracker crumbs to be a great addition! Make sure you scoop up the soft-serve and graham crackers crumbs into one bite — it’ll taste JUST like cold key lime pie. Tasty, right?!

We dig the graham cracker crumbs!

We HIGHLY recommend swinging by Pineapple Lanai to grab this treat. You can get it right now for a SUPER limited time — just through May 9th — for $5.49. And key lime pie fans: you’ve got to try this. Seriously. Just trust us. 😉

We’ll keep an eye out for more new Disney treats and let you know what we find. Stay tuned for all the latest news and reviews!

The 3 Most Unexpected Things That Happened in Disney World in April

We’re blazin’ right on through spring!

Tree of Life

Yep, another month has FLOWN by just like that and we’ve seen a LOT of serious news from Disney World. Some of that news was downright SHOCKING, too. Here are the three most unexpected things that happened in Disney World last month!

1. The PeopleMover opened EARLY.

We HAVE to start with the biggest surprise of the month. The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover ACTUALLY OPENED; and not only that, it opened early.

PeopleMover

This beloved Omnimover attraction in the Magic Kingdom did not reopen with the park last July. And its closure just kept getting extended again and again. We were worried the PeopleMover was doomed until suddenly this month a reopening was announced!

On the PeopleMover

Sure enough, after a bit of a late start, the PeopleMover was moving peeps again after a year of closure on April 25th. What a seriously happy surprise!

Want to see more about the big reopening? Click here!

2. The mask policy changed a little bit.

We’ve come to more or less expect changes to the health measures in Disney World regularly — especially when it comes to the mask policy.

New Mask Policy in Action

At the beginning of April, Disney announced that the policy would be updated to allow guests to temporarily remove their masks to take pictures while outdoors. They must remain still and socially distanced while doing so.

New Mask Policy

This policy has been active for a while now and we’ve walked you through it to see just how it works. Still, it gave us a bit of a shock when the news first popped up!

To learn more about this policy change, click here.

3. The Skyliner crashed…AGAIN.

And our last surprise was more of a shock as the Disney World Skyliner had another incident. You may remember when the Skyliner crashed right when it opened back in 2019. The incident left guests stranded in the air for several hours.

Skyliner Crash @nextstopmainstreet on Instagram

Well, it happened again this month (much to our surprise). On April 22nd, a few gondolas collided at Disney’s Hollywood Studios station. Still, the crash was less disruptive than the previous incident.

Disney Skyliner

The Skyliner was back up and running relatively quickly and thankfully no one was hurt.

Click here to learn more about this crash.

All of these updates were pretty big surprises in the last month. Now, we’re headed into summer, ready to take on all those Disney World curveballs! Of course, you can follow along right here with DFB to make sure you’re in the loop too.

The Real Reason Why Hollywood Studios Fills Up Faster Than Other Disney World Parks

If you have plans to visit Disney World, you’ll need to know all about the Park Pass reservation system.

Hollywood Studios

To closely monitor their capacity and align with health and safety guidelines, Disney is currently requiring a Park Pass reservation in addition to a valid theme park ticket for each day of your visit. We’ve got a guide for you with ALL our tips on doing that. But if you’re trying to get into Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you may notice…it books up WAY faster than the other parks (typically!). And it turns out, there’s a very good reason why!

Okay, let’s start at the beginning. If you’re trying to book a Park Pass reservation for Disney’s Hollywood Studios, best of luck to ya! All of the reservations here tend to get snatched up quicker than the other Disney parks. Just recently, we reported that Park Passes for Hollywood Studios were booked out through mid-June! Yikes.

Let us in!

That’s all well and good, but WHY does Hollywood Studios book up so fast? Well, a couple of factors come into play that make scoring a reservation here a extra tricky. Luckily, we’re breaking them down for you!

It’s Popular

We’re gonna start with the obvious — Hollywood Studios is popular! this used to be known as a half-day park but NOT anymore! Disney’s two newest attractions are here: Mickey and Minnie’s Railway and ALL of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Not to mention, Toy Story Land (including the mega-fun Slinky Dog Dash) just opened a few years ago and many guests still haven’t had a chance to experience it, if they don’t visit regularly. A few NEW rides and 2 NEW lands?! Unsurprisingly, people want to give all this fun new stuff a try!

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance quickly became an absolute must for most guests visiting Disney World. But you’ll need to reserve a boarding group to ride! And while you can currently Park Hop after 2PM, the last boarding group for Rise of the Resistance opens at 1PM…and you’ll need to have a Hollywood Studios Park Pass for the day to grab it. Womp, womp.

Don’t let them know you’re with the Resistance!

And because the park IS so popular, it’s kind of contributing to its own problem. If people really want to visit, they’re going to book it for the first park of the day because they see how fast capacity fills. They’re not going to wait and maybe visit on the off chance that it hasn’t reached capacity when the Park Hopping window opens at 2PM. Now, this probably isn’t a major factor, but it certainly doesn’t help.

Check Out the Newest Rules for Getting a Rise of the Resistance Boarding Group!

It’s Small

If you dig a little deeper into it, you may realize…Disney’s Hollywood Studios is small. Now, Magic Kingdom is the smallest Disney World park from an acreage perspective, but Hollywood Studios’ capacity is much lower.

According to the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), Magic Kingdom averaged over 57,000 guests per day in 2019. EPCOT averaged 34,000 guests per day, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom averaged 38,000 guests daily. By comparison, Disney’s Hollywood Studios averaged just over 31,000 guests each day. Now, these numbers are well below the max capacity for each park, as Disney rarely hit capacity pre-COVID, but they do provide some perspective of capacity limitations (as Disney does not make their actual capacity numbers public).

Toy Story Land

Due to limited park operations, capacity is currently lowered across all 4 Disney parks. Last November, Disney increased that capacity from 25% to 35%. And as of February, that percentage remained. Now, whether or not it’s STILL at 35%…Disney hasn’t said. But we’re gonna use that number for now, so hang tight.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

Obviously, 35% is different for each of the 4 parks. For example, according to the TEA’s numbers, Magic Kingdom would be able to welcome significantly more guests than, say, Animal Kingdom. And since Hollywood Studios has a smaller normal capacity, that 35% limit is pretty small, too.

Millennium Falcon

Now, it’s worth noting that Disney has been vague about its current capacity procedures. That is, we don’t know how many Park Passes they’re actually allotting and when. But we can assume, based on “normal” capacity, that Hollywood Studios is getting a smaller allotment. This means Hollywood Studios simply can’t offer as many Park Pass reservations as other parks.

Click to See When Disney World Hit Capacity!

What Now?!

Let’s throw ‘em both together: popular park + low capacity = Park Pass reservations that go fast! Okay, sure: now you understand why it’s so frustrating trying to book a day at Hollywood Studios. But that doesn’t really help ya out if you’re currently on the struggle bus, right?!

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

We’re gonna give you a little tip: don’t give up hope! We previously mentioned that Disney was vague about how their Park Pass reservations work. And it’s true! They’ll randomly drop MORE passes every once and a while, refilling the “bucket” of reservations available.

Hello from Hollywood Studios!

If you’re really hoping to get into the park, keep checking Disney’s official Park Pass Availability Calendar. Of course, we’ll keep ya posted here, too! And if it really comes down to it, there’s a chance that you’ll be able to Park Hop over on the day of your visit to Disney World. That means no Rise of the Resistance that day, but you can still ride and experience everything else in the park. Remember that we also recommend you book your Park Passes as SOON as you book your trip — hopefully, if a few months out at least, you’ll still have plenty time to snag a pass here.

Good luck if you’re trying to snag that Park Pass! We’ll keep ya posted with more Disney news (and plenty of tips!), so stay tuned to DFB.
