Landry’s Select Club Card FAQs

TouringPlans is pleased to welcome guest author Brian McCumsey.

On my last trip to Animal Kingdom, I wanted to eat at the Yak & Yeti restaurant. No, not the quick service–the real deal, sit-down version. The quick-service version of Yak & Yeti and I have a complicated history. Alas, that’s a story for another time–or never.

Each day, I’d look for dining availability for Yak & Yeti, but nothing was available. I didn’t get to eat there. Sadness and regret ensue.

Don’t be like me. There is a secret little life-hack so that you can avoid this scenario and for only one easy payment of $25.00!

Today, we’re talking about the Landry’s Select CardOooh, that sounds fancy!

Tell me about this Landry’s Select Card and why I want it!

Landry’s owns a crazy amount of restaurants. Seriously, the list on the Landry’s Select Card website has a ton of awesome options. Three of these options exist at Walt Disney World: Rainforest Cafe (Animal Kingdom and Disney Springs), T-Rex Cafe (Disney Springs), and Yak & Yeti (Animal Kingdom).

Most programs have fine print–I’d expect the fine print to say that this rewards program can’t be used at the Disney locations–BUT IT DOESN’T! I think they forgot the fine print.  Shhhh . . . don’t tell Landry.

Simply sign up on the website and pay a one time fee of $25.00. Yes, you pay $25.00, but then you get a $25.00 Welcome Reward; you can use this at the three restaurants mentioned above. You’ll also get a birthday reward of $25.00. You can’t use them both at the same time, but, hey, that’ll give you an excuse to go twice.

Miso Salmon – Yak and Yeti

Tell me about the other perks!

This works a lot like any of the dozens upon dozens of rewards programs in which you’re already enrolled. You earn one point for every one dollar you spend. Once you hit 250 points, you get a $25.00 reward. The rewards don’t expire for one year.

If you’ve been dining at Disney, you know that it won’t take too many trips to reach that coveted point total. You’ll be knee-deep in $25.00 rewards before you know it!

Don’t forget, there are over 600 Landry’s restaurant locations that participate in the Select Club. More than likely, there will be some near you. If you dine at any of these locations, you can earn rewards that you could use while dining at one of the three Disney locations.

What about that life-hack you promised to tell us so that we could avoid sadness?

I didn’t get a reservation at Yak & Yeti on my last trip to Animal Kingdom. But . . . maybe I could have, and I just didn’t know about it!

With the Landry’s Select Card you get a special, Marvel-like superpower called Priority Seating. Let’s say you can’t get that reservation–you walk up to Yak & Yeti and feebly ask if they have any room for you, a lowly walk-up. The host smiles, because this is Disney after all, but then dashes your hopes and dreams. “Oh really?” you say, while taking your Landry’s Select Card out of your wallet. “Do you have any room now, Landry?”

It seems that simply by having this card, people without reservations have been seated within ten minutes. TEN MINUTES! Without even a hint of a reservation. While not guaranteed during peak times of year, you can often get seated even when there’s no reservations available.

What’s the catch? There’s always a catch!

I know, there usually is, but I truly can’t find one for the Landry’s Select Card. It seems like it should be in everyone’s wallet.

But I don’t like carrying extra cards in my wallet!

Luckily for you, you don’t have to bring it with you. Just tell your server the phone number you used when you signed up. (Though I’m not certain you’ll get the priority seating without the card, and you won’t get to have the cool moment of rebuffing their “No room” response that I mentioned earlier.)

Back to talking about if there is a catch . . . The only one I can come up with, and this is a stretch, is that these perks are only available at three restaurants on Walt Disney property. You can’t whip this card out at ‘Ohana and demand some meats on skewers, for example.

So, yes, it’s a bit limited, but that’s why you gotta get up early and make your other dining reservations. This is basically your back-up plan.

The registration fee is a one-time charge; the card never costs anything else. To me, it’s a no-brainer. There are very few things in life that only cost $25.00 and make me feel like a VIP.  I’ll take the Tony Stark treatment where I can get it!

Could Avengers Campus EVER Come to Disney World?

Who doesn’t seem to love the Marvel Cinematic Universe nowadays?

Avengers Campus ©Disney

We’ve spent over a decade falling in love with the Avengers and now they’re coming to life in their very own theme park land in Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Resort. But, could an Avengers Campus ever come to Disney World? Well, it’s not as straightforward as you might think. Read on!

What is Avengers Campus?

Let’s start with the basics. What is the new Avengers-themed land? Avengers Campus is a whole new area coming to Disney California Adventure on June 4th. It’s themed as a big campus where the Avengers “recruit the next generation of superheroes.” And that means YOU!

©Disney

The land will feature two attractions when it opens, the existing Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT and the new WEB Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure. In Phase Two of the land, another E-ticket attraction will open where guests will join the Avengers in battle in Wakanda!

The land will also feature four new dining locations — Pym Test Kitchen, Pym Tasting Lab, Shawarma Palace, Terran Treats — plus plenty of character encounters.

That all sounds pretty neat, so why aren’t there already plans for the same thing in Disney World!?

You won’t see (most) Avengers in Disney World.

As you might have noticed, the Avengers have been a meet-and-greet fixture at Disneyland Resort for some time now. But, you’d be hard-pressed to find any of the Marvel supers represented in Disney World (with VERY rare exception!). So, why is that?

©Disney Marvel Characters Roaming Avengers Campus

This is due to the fact that Universal actually owns some of the theme park rights of Marvel. They bought the rights before Disney owned Marvel under the stipulations that they had to use the intellectual properties to keep the rights, and that there were two zones of the country where the rights could apply — east and west of the Mississippi River.

The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man

Because Universal had a whole Marvel-themed land in Universal Orlando, they’ve retained rights for any heroes represented in the park east of the Mississippi. Since Universal Hollywood did NOT have any Marvel content represented, Disney now controls the theme park rights west of the Mississippi. Thus, California gets a Disney Marvel land and Florida gets a Universal Marvel land.

The Incredible Hulk Coaster

The only way for Disney to control the rights to these supers is if they buy the rights from Universal, which, as far as we know, is not a deal that’s currently on the table or in the works.

But you will see SOME Marvel characters in Disney World!

Now, we know what you’re thinking. But we’ve DEFINITELY seen Star-Lord in Disney’s Hollywood Studios? And what about the MAJOR Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind rollercoaster that’s coming to EPCOT!?

©Disney

Well, as we mentioned, Universal has to USE the rights in order to keep them. They haven’t used a lot of the characters that are now big names in the Marvel Universe. The Guardians of the Galaxy are not represented in Universal Orlando, so they’re exempt and can be used. This is also why Dr. Strange has been a meet and greet in Hollywood Studios in the past!

©Disney

The exact details of this caveat are private but could this mean we’ll see other unfeatured heroes like Deadpool, Shang-Chi, and The Eternals in Disney World? Maybe!

So, could Avengers Campus come to Disney World?

So, will we see an Avengers Campus come to Disney World. Nope! At least, not the same version that’s coming to Disney California Adventure and/or not for some time.

©Disney

One day, Disney may be able to purchase the rights from Universal and have free rein to bring all of the Avengers and Marvel folks that they want to Disney World. Or, Disney could start producing new media based on Marvel comics that AREN’T represented in Universal Orlando and then base a theme park land off of those (cough Shang-Chi and the Seven Rings cough Eternals cough).

©Disney

Either way, these options could be waaaaaaay far out in the future, or they may not happen at all. Still, we can dream, can’t we? In the meantime, we’ll just have to pop over to Universal for our Avengers fix or enjoy the few Marvel characters we CAN see in Disney World (lookin’ at you, baby robo-Groot!).
