The 3 Most Unexpected Things That Happened in Disney World in April

We’re blazin’ right on through spring!

Tree of Life

Yep, another month has FLOWN by just like that and we’ve seen a LOT of serious news from Disney World. Some of that news was downright SHOCKING, too. Here are the three most unexpected things that happened in Disney World last month!

1. The PeopleMover opened EARLY.

We HAVE to start with the biggest surprise of the month. The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover ACTUALLY OPENED; and not only that, it opened early.

PeopleMover

This beloved Omnimover attraction in the Magic Kingdom did not reopen with the park last July. And its closure just kept getting extended again and again. We were worried the PeopleMover was doomed until suddenly this month a reopening was announced!

Sure enough, after a bit of a late start, the PeopleMover was moving peeps again after a year of closure on April 25th. What a seriously happy surprise!

2. The mask policy changed a little bit.

We’ve come to more or less expect changes to the health measures in Disney World regularly — especially when it comes to the mask policy.

New Mask Policy in Action

At the beginning of April, Disney announced that the policy would be updated to allow guests to temporarily remove their masks to take pictures while outdoors. They must remain still and socially distanced while doing so.

This policy has been active for a while now and we’ve walked you through it to see just how it works. Still, it gave us a bit of a shock when the news first popped up!

3. The Skyliner crashed…AGAIN.

And our last surprise was more of a shock as the Disney World Skyliner had another incident. You may remember when the Skyliner crashed right when it opened back in 2019. The incident left guests stranded in the air for several hours.

Well, it happened again this month (much to our surprise). On April 22nd, a few gondolas collided at Disney’s Hollywood Studios station. Still, the crash was less disruptive than the previous incident.

The Skyliner was back up and running relatively quickly and thankfully no one was hurt.

All of these updates were pretty big surprises in the last month. Now, we’re headed into summer, ready to take on all those Disney World curveballs! Of course, you can follow along right here with DFB to make sure you’re in the loop too.
