Sometimes all you want is to sit down, give your feet a break, go on a nice, slow-moving ride, and relax! (Hello Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover). But, other times you’ve gotta go on those coasters and satisfy your NEED FOR SPEED.
If you’re truly looking for those thrills, you might be wondering what the FASTEST ride in Disney World is. Well, we’ve got that answer for you! Today we’ll actually be sharing a list of the top 6 fastest rides in Disney World! Can you guess what the 6 are and what ride is at the top of the list? Take a second now to make your guesses and see if you can get them all right. Got your list ready? Okay…let’s go!!
6. Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
We start our list with the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror in Disney’s Hollywood Studios! When you thought about fast rides, Tower of Terror might not have come to mind since the speed really comes when you’re going down, rather than forwards (or backwards).
On Tower of Terror, you’re not just free-falling, you’re actually being PULLED down, which is what creates that speed. The ride uses cables to pull the ride vehicle slightly faster than a normal free-fall would be — up to a max speed of 39 mph! You might drive faster than that in your car on the highway every day, but it certainly feels different when you’re falling down at that speed.

5. Slinky Dog Dash
The 5th and 4th spots on this list are actually a tie (although we won’t reveal what #4 is just yet). Slinky Dog Dash is in the Toy Story Land area of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which might make you think that it’s potentially a smaller coaster just for little ones. But, this ride packs a punch in all the best ways!
While it isn’t the fastest ride in Disney World, it can hit a top speed of 40 mph! And with that second launch, great hills and drops, and fun theming, kids and kids at heart can enjoy this ride and still get a little sense of thrill.

4. Splash Mountain
Tied with Slinky Dog Dash is Splash Mountain in Magic Kingdom. Like Tower of Terror, this is one you may have never thought of including on the fastest rides list since it is not a roller coaster. But, Splash Mountain can actually hit a top speed of 40 mph!
Of course, you won’t be running past Brer Bear and his friends at this speed inside of Chickapin Hill. But, as you get thrown into the Briar Patch and plummet down the mountain, you’ll hit that top speed at one point, and probably get that dropping sensation in your stomach. It’s not necessarily how you’re used to hitting those speeds, which makes it even more of a thrill!

3. Expedition Everest
In the number 3 spot, we’ve got a signature ride from Disney’s Animal Kingdom — Expedition Everest! Everest has a number of thrill-inducing elements including some fast turns, a big drop, the close encounter with the Yeti, and the portions where you race through the ride backwards.
While on Everest, you’ll actually reach a top speed of 50 mph! Just don’t forget to dance and wave at our friend, the Disco Yeti.

2. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith
In our #2 position, we’ve got Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This is what many of you may have guessed as the fastest ride in all of Disney World. While it doesn’t take the #1 spot, it is very fast.
On Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, you’ll actually hit a top speed of 57 mph. Couple that with the VERY fast launch, 3 inversions, and those rockin’ tunes and you’ve got one fun coaster.

1. Test Track
And finally, we reach the end of our list and the FASTEST ride in all of Disney World — Test Track in EPCOT! You may have thought that rides like Everest and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster would have beaten out all of the competitors. They are roller coasters after all, while Test Track is NOT. But, Test Track does take the top spot in terms of speed.
On this ride, you’ll hit a top speed of 65 mph in your car when driving around that outdoor area near the very end of the ride. And we’ve all probably gotten or seen those crazy hair photos to prove just how fast this ride really is!

And that’s our list of the fastest rides in Disney World! But, this list could be changing soon. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is set to be one exciting coaster with the first-ever “reverse launch into space” and vehicles that move in some unique ways. Where will the Guardians coaster fit on this list? We’ll have to wait to find out!
TRON Lightcycle Run is also being built in Disney World, over in Magic Kingdom. The version of this coaster that is in Shanghai Disneyland can reach speeds over 60 mph according to a post from Entertainment Weekly. Will the Disney World version hit similar levels of speed? We expect it will, but we’ll just have to ride it ourselves to find out!
We’ll continue to keep an eye out for more updates on these upcoming rides and share all the latest Disney news with you!
