The title for the sequel to Disney’s Black Panther was announced last month, along with several other new Marvel movie titles!
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will return us to the land of Wakanda for a new movie coming soon. And this past Tuesday, Marvel took a big step with this sequel.
According to Yahoo, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has officially begun production! Marvel Studios began filming on Tuesday in preparation for the July 8, 2022 production date.
The Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, shared that he and the cast are excited to show the world more about Wakanda, but still very emotional about filming without Chadwick Boseman. Boseman, who played the title character in Black Panther and starred in the Avengers movies, passed away last year after a battle with colon cancer.
In honor of Chadwick Boseman, the character T’Challa will not be recast in this sequel. Instead, the director plans to focus on other characters we’ve seen in the first Black Panther movie. Lupita Nyong’o played Nakia — a member of the Black Panther’s guard — in the first film and will be returning for the sequel. She emphasized the cast’s emotion over filming without Boseman and also stated that “the second movie is so respectful of the loss we’ve all experienced as a cast and as a world,” according to Yahoo.
We share the mixed emotions of sadness over Chadwick Boseman’s death and excitement for the story of Wakanda to continue in the upcoming film.
