Why is it So Hard to Buy Disney Event Tickets on Opening Day?

Year after year, event after event, modern technology marches onward and upward in the world, yet purchasing tickets to any of Disney’s special events on opening day is met with one glitch after another.

There is a thread over on DISboards.com that currently has 8 pages (and counting!) worth of posts –just from this morning – from upset guests who have been unable to get through on Disney’s phone lines to purchase tickets during the early booking window (which opens today) for select resort hotel guests. Tickets don’t go on sale for the general public until June 15th.

There has been some confusion as to whether or not guests would be able to buy tickets in My Disney Experience or if they’d need to call Disney directly. I would think that it would make the most sense to be able to complete the purchase through the MDE app since that is where your resort booking is and it can be easily verified, but maybe that’s just me?

Several folks in the thread have reported that they’ve spoken with a cast member on the phone this morning who advised them that tickets have not been loaded into the system yet. I don’t understand why that is as this event was announced way back at the beginning of May. That should be plenty of time to build that system and load those tickets for a later release, no?
