They say that good things come to those who wait. Well, waiting until the last minute to grab a breakfast reservation certainly turned out well for us. Breakfast at The Wave… of American Flavors has an unexpected surprise right now. This past week, we had a wonderful delight when we went to have breakfast at The Wave. We decided at the last minute to look and see if we could get a breakfast reservation at the Contemporary Resort. So we went to the My Disney Experience app and searched for The Wave. Much to our surprise, there was a 7:45am breakfast reservation available. We quickly scooped it up and we were so excited to try a new, for us, breakfast spot.
The Setting
We arrived at The Wave on Friday morning and noticed that they had blocked off the front entrance. The sign read that The Wave’s breakfast was being served at the California Grill from 7:30am-11 am. We made our way up to the second-floor podium to check-in as instructed and cast members directed us to the 15th floor. Upstairs in the California Grill, staff seated us with a beautiful view of the castle and Magic Kingdom. It turned out we made our reservations for the first day they were serving breakfast at the top of the world. The staff were very friendly but seemed a little unsure of their new setting. The Wave staff had come upstairs to serve breakfast. We appreciate Disney for finding a place for these cast members to serve while their home base is unavailable.
The Food
We ordered the Wave Signature Sweet Potato Pancakes for $14. This meal offers four decent-sized pancakes and your choice of bacon, pork, sausage, or chicken sausage. We also ordered The Wave Feast for $20. This meal has a little of everything. It offers Eggs Benedict, scrambled egg, bacon, sausage, Mickey waffle, bacon-cheddar grits, breakfast potatoes, and fresh fruit. This is a great value for the money. Normally to get that view you have to eat dinner at the California Grill. Entrees at the California Grill can cost you around $50-$60, so take advantage of getting a prime location for half the price. The Wave menu also boasts refillable mimosas and press pot coffee. Not only did we get to eat delicious sweet potato pancakes and delectable scrambled eggs, but now we also had one of the best views on property.
The moral of the story is if you are planning a trip to Walt Disney World in the near future, make plans for breakfast at The Wave. Dining reservations can be made 60 days in advance of your trip as of right now. If you aren’t able to get reservations at your 60-day window, make sure to check back periodically to see if any become available. Sometimes people will change their plans and you can grab a last-minute reservation.
The Wave breakfast also offers a walk-up list that you can join from the My Disney Experience app once you get close to the restaurant. Keep in mind that sometimes the walk-up list also fills up and isn’t available. You will be treated to beautiful morning views and scrumptious food to fuel you for your day of character sightings and park hopping. My stomach is growling just thinking about it.
