It came as a shock to hear that the recently-returned show received a final end date…but is it really going for good?
We just recently got the “Happily Ever After” fireworks back in Magic Kingdom with the return of fireworks to Disney World this month! Disney is debuting a new fireworks and projections show in the Magic Kingdom — called “Disney Enchantment” — on October 1st as part of the 50th Anniversary Celebrations. This show will replace “Happily Ever After” for the time being.
According to Disney, “this summer is also your last chance to come out and catch the current fireworks shows before they sparkle into Disney history.” Disney’s announcement stated that “You have until September 29 to take in the spectacle of ‘Happily Ever After’ at Magic Kingdom Park.”
Saying “your last chance”makes this announcement sounds final that “Happily Ever After” is ending in the parks. But how final is final? Could it return? We’re breaking down a few of the times something closed for good and later returned.
That’s right…Disney sometimes brings back popular shows and attractions, even once they’ve been officially canceled! For example, we thought the Main Street Electrical Parade was gone forever when it ended in October 2016, but it came back for a January to August 2017 run and then returned to Disneyland for a short time again in August and September 2019!
Sometimes attractions come back in a different way, such as the popular Club Cool in EPCOT, which was shut down due to refurbishments in the park in September of 2019. This year, Disney announced that a revitalized Club Cool will be returning to EPCOT this summer with some “new magic to bring the global experience of Coca-Cola to life for you.”
A popular ride that got an update back in 2016 is Soarin’ Over California in Disney’s California Adventure, which was changed to become Soarin’ Around the World. However, in June 2019, the original Soarin’ Over California came back to stay for a whole month! Then it came back again for a brief time in early 2020 before the park closed due to the pandemic.
So we’ve learned that sometimes “gone” doesn’t mean “gone forever” with Disney! Although some things have stayed gone once they’re canceled or closed (we still miss you, Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights!), the things that have returned show that it’s possible that Happily Ever After could return someday. Maybe we’ll just have to wait for all the holiday and 50th Anniversary Celebration shows to pass, and then there will be room for a return…or for a replacement (Wishes, anyone?!)!
