If you live in California, there are only a few ways to get to and from Disneyland — taking public transportation, which many might argue isn’t easy or reliable, or driving (either driving yourself, using a shuttle service, rideshare, or taxi).
And of course, if you’re driving yourself, you have to add additional parking fees once you get there, and those can add up. But what if there were an easier way to get to Disneyland, perhaps from somewhere like San Diego?
Well, there may soon be a way to easily get from San Diego to Disneyland. According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, the North County Transit District Board, which handles public transportation in the North San Diego County area, has struck a deal with Metrolink, the Orange County commuter rail system, that could make that trip possible via train.
Currently, the Coaster commuter trains in the San Diego area only travel between San Diego and Oceanside, but Metrolink travels between Oceanside and Anaheim. By combining the two service routes, Disneyland guests could easily get from San Diego to Disneyland.
Current efforts will focus on providing the train route for special events in Anaheim, such as the 2021 Major League Baseball playoffs, 2022 Major League Baseball All-Star Team, 2022 National Football League Super Bowl, and the 2028 Summer Olympics. Both transit agencies will work together to come up with fares, a fare system, and a way to make it all work as a “seamless rider experience.”
There will be a few pilot events to test out the route and system, as well as to give riders confidence in the new system. Although there don’t seem to be any plans at this moment to make the route extend beyond special events, the companies may wish to expand it if riders continue to show interest in the route.
Stay tuned because we’ll keep you updated!
