New York City and Disney often come together to create events for Disney fans who live in the Northeast, and the fun begins in just a few weeks!
It has just been announced that Live at The New Am will be a soft opening concert welcoming back Disney to Broadway that’ll run from July 22nd-25th. Featuring veteran Disney Broadway performers, including Ashley Brown and Michael James Scott, this series at the New Amsterdam Theatre will welcome audiences back to Broadway with songs from The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and Frozen, just to name a few. The concert will benefit the Actor’s Fund.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art will be showing an exhibit celebrating Disney art and Walt Disney. The exhibit can be viewed December 10th, 2021 through March 6th, 2022. What a great reason for Disney fans to come and explore New York City again!
The Met has collaborated with Disney’s animation library, family museum, archives and collections to showcase the inspirations of art and decor that European art had on Walt Disney’s animation, film, parks and stories. French influences, architecture, and objects will show us how that genre influenced what we know of as Disney’s Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast. Showcasing 18th century culture and art by exhibiting furniture and objects (tapestries, porcelain) from that time period, we can follow the changes in technology and art. I am looking forward to visualizing how the art and technology developed over time.
This exhibit reminds me of staying at the Gran Destino Tower at Coronado Springs Resort in Walt Disney World. The artwork throughout the resort explores, celebrates and shares with us the Spanish culture by which Walt Disney was inspired. It’s a great peek into his collaboration and friendship with Salvador Dali and how the influence of Dali’s art can be seen in Walt Disney’s films and architecture, decor and colors.
I am very excited to spend time in a NYC museum with a Disney connection. I am also looking forward to the Disney on Broadway shows The Lion King and Aladdin, both opening in September 2021. Also, new for Universal fans is the Harry Potter store on Broadway which has many experiences in addition to shopping and, of course, the Disney store in Times Square is my favorite place to find Disney NYC merchandise (I love my Minnie Mouse Miss Liberty plush). For those looking for outdoor activities, Pixar Putt is a mini golf outdoor experience located in Battery Park City, NYC August 1st-October 31st, 2021. Tickets are available online, and the interesting part is that there is a mailing list for possible tour announcements for a city near you!
All of these activities and events give me something to look forward to when I am not in the parks. Do you have anything Disney that you explore in your home state? Please tell us below in the comments!
