Today is the official reopening of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and we’re having a blast checking everything out!
The new Moana rooms are awesome, Cast Members are handing out free POG Juice, and as a fun surprise, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto has reopened! We’re heading inside now to check it out, and we’re bringing you along.
Checking In
As expected, there was quite the line on reopening day! In fact, we had to put our names down on a virtual line waitlist to even get inside.
It took an hour and 20 minutes, but we finally got a text telling us to come back. Time to have some fun! The line is now 5 hours long.
Atmosphere
Oh, how we missed this place! It’s so unusual and fun in here, filled with all kinds of hidden details that you won’t notice at first glance.
If you’ve never been inside, the decor is definitely a hodgepodge of tropical and Disney Easter eggs. It feels good to be back and to soak it all in!
You could literally spend hours looking at the details!
Guests were encouraged to share tables inside. There’s not a lot of space in here, so you may find yourself standing or sitting with strangers.
One of our favorite things about Trader Sam’s is all the crazy antics. While we were visiting, someone called upon the tiki goddess Uh-Oa!
And our bartender started goofing off, the Cast Members in here are fantastic!
While waiting on our drinks, we took some time to check out all the fun nods. We spotted Orange Bird…
…some very interesting books…
…and a plethora of interesting knick-knacks behind the bar!
There’s never a dull moment at Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto!
Menu
When we made it inside, we were given a paper menu. There are dozens of drinks to choose from, each more whimsical and fun than the last.
Depending on what you order, some unusual things may happen around the bar. So be careful! And some of these drinks come in pretty interesting tiki glasses. Drinking out of a Nautilus, anyone?
They also have a selection of less-wild beverages to choose from, along with an appetizer menu. There’s something for everyone!
A few changes have happened around the restaurant. For example, the family tree is no longer a family tree and the fun plastic bendy straws have been replaced by paper bendy straws. We’ll be bringing you our full review later, but for now, here’s our first look back into Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto! Stay tuned to DFB for the latest news and updates!
