And Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, has just awarded Andrés for his humanitarian and unifying efforts with $100 million. This new award is called the “Courage and Civility Award.”
Previously, Chef José Andrés was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2012 and 2018. He’s also received the accolade of Humanitarian of the Year, by the James Beard Foundation, and a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019 for his work with the World Central Kitchen — the non-profit organization he founded.
His restaurant Jaleo in Disney Springs serves dishes inspired by Spanish cuisine, such as paellas and tapas!

According to CNN, Jeff Bezos announced on Tuesday that he would be awarding José Andrés $100 million as the “Courage and Civility Award.” Bezos claimed that the money was part of a “‘surprise’ philanthropic initiative he wanted to announce” to “honor those who have ‘demonstrated courage’ and tried to be a unifier in a divisive world.”

The money that’s part of the award is for each recipient to use however they see fit. CNN reported that Andrés said this would start a new chapter for his organization, World Central Kitchen. Bezos has said that this is a new philanthropic effort, so we may see more awards given in the future.
