Review: Is Plaza Ice Cream Parlor Still a MUST DO in Disney World?

Lots of restaurants have been reopening all over Disney World.

Time to Eat!

For months, the Main Street Plaza Ice Cream Parlor in Magic Kingdom has been closed, but its reopening day has finally arrived!! We already shared a first look at this reopened spot but now we’re ready to give you all the delicious details. Is the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor worth a visit and can you still get some favorites there? We’re breaking it all down for you here today!

Atmosphere

We’ll start with the atmosphere of this spot. From the second you walk underneath that “Plaza Ice Cream Parlor” sign, you feel like you’re going back in time (in the best way possible).

So Pretty!

The Plaza Ice Cream Parlor is designed to look like a vintage-style ice cream parlor.

Inside this spot, you’ll find beautiful mint and pink colors as well as all kinds of crown moulding and other details throughout.

A Peek Inside

If you’re looking to grab a treat, you’ll want to hop in line with all of your fellow ice cream lovers.

We’re Not Alone

After waiting in line, you’ll make your way to the register to place your order with the Cast Member there.

Registers

On the counter, you’ll see some of the brownies being kept warm for future sundaes. YUM.

A Look at the Counter

There is no seating inside of this space. Instead, you’ll find small cafe tables outside with fantastic views of Cinderella Castle. Or you can take a seat on the lawn in front of the Castle to enjoy your ice cream picnic-style!

Eats

Speaking of ice cream, let’s take a look at the menu!

Menu

The current menu for the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor has some returning treats, but is also missing some favorites.

First, let’s go over what is on the menu. Right now, you can grab a Brownie Sundae, Ice Cream Float with Coca-Cola or Barq’s Root Beer, the Plaza Ice Cream Sundae, and a Double-Scooped Ice Cream Cone.

There are also some additional toppings you can grab like hot fudge, caramel, and peanut butter.

In terms of ice cream flavors, the Plaza serves up Edy’s Ice Cream. Available flavors include Vanilla, Strawberry, Mint Chocolate Chip, and more. There is also a no sugar added option, and plant-based frozen desserts.

Want to grab your sundae in a souvenir Mickey bowl?

So Fun!

You can totally do that, but it will be an additional cost. These are the same bowls we’ve seen used for the waffle sundaes at the BoardWalk Bakery in the past.

Ear Hat Bowl!

So, what’s missing from the menu? Well, a few things are missing including the All-American Sundae (one of our FAVORITES), the Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich, and the Mickey Mouse Kid’s Cone. But, we think you can recreate at least one of these (kinda) if you get a little creative! More on that in a second!

Up Close and Personal with Plaza Ice Cream Parlor’s All-American Sundae

Right now, let’s go through and review what we got from the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor today!

First up, we got the Double-scooped Ice Cream Cone. You can pick any 2 flavors for this ice cream cone, but for our snack we went with mint chocolate chip and strawberry ice cream.

Everything is better with Mickey ears right? The Mickey ears themselves are solid, little chocolate circles and they were automatically included with our ice cream.

Mickey Ice Cream!

The Edy’s ice cream was delicious and tasted very fresh, which was great. The combination of the strawberry and mint chocolate chip was especially fun.

YUM

Plus, the mix of the colors combined with the Mickey ears on top made for a pretty great photo!

Instagrammable for Sure

Like most ice cream does in the Florida heat, it started melting VERY quickly. We grabbed a regular cup just meant for tap water (you can get these at most quick service locations in Disney World) to help with our melty ice cream situation.

If you’re going on a particularly hot Florida day, it might be a good idea to grab one of these cups from a quick service spot nearby so you can have a cup to place your ice cream in if it starts melting faster than you can eat it!

Grab a Cup!

You can grab your own double-scooped ice cream cone for $5.99.

Next up is the Brownie Sundae! This treat is made of a which is a Warm Brownie served with Hot Fudge, Whipped Cream, Cherry and your choice of Two Hand-scoops of Ice Cream. This item is priced at $7.49.

For our sundae, we got vanilla bean and chocolate ice cream scoops. Now, make no mistake, this is no monster brownie sundae. But if you’re looking for a brownie sundae in Magic Kingdom it can be a great choice!

Brownie Sundae

Again, we loved how fresh the ice cream tasted. And the brownies were a wonderful addition — they were moist and chewy, just as they should be!

Those Brownies Were So Good!

The combination of chocolate and vanilla in this dessert was fantastic, although you could grab other ice cream flavors to suit your tastes!

Delicious Combo

While this treat already comes with hot fudge (which we asked for on the side)…

Hot Fudge!

…we just HAD to turn things up a notch. That’s why we ordered a little side of peanut butter ice cream topping! This extra topping is just $0.69 and is TOTALLY worth it!

Delicious!

This is what we mean when we say that you could recreate some Plaza Ice Cream favorites by being a little creative. So, for example, the All-American Sundae that used to be here was made of Old-Fashioned Vanilla and Chocolate Ice Cream that’s topped with Hot Fudge, Peanut Butter Drizzle, Whipped Cream, and a beautiful red Cherry. It is also topped with peanut butter and chocolate chips.

Peanut Butter Topping

There’s no option on the menu for that exact combination right now, but you can get a Plaza Ice Cream Sundae with chocolate and vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream, and two cherries. And for $0.69 more, you can add that peanut butter topping. Sure, it won’t have the peanut butter and chocolate chips, but it could still make for a delicious and refreshing treat!

Gotta Get that Peanut Butter Topping!

And finally, we asked about ordering a kids cup of ice cream, but the Cast Members there said that was no longer available. Instead, you can either grab a single scoop of ice cream in a cup for $4.99 or you can just opt for the double-scooped ice cream cone for $5.99 (like the one we got above).

Single Scoop and It’s Melttttinngggggg

So, for just a dollar more you can get double the ice cream in a cone (compared to just 1 scoop in a cup).

Eat Your Ice Cream Before It Melts Folks!

In terms of cost savings, you could totally just get the double scoop and potentially ask for an extra cup and you’ll essentially get 2 desserts for just slightly more than the price of 1!

And that’s a look at the items we got today at the Plaza. Should you stop here? Here’s what we think…

Nosh or Not?

You might want to say “I scream for Plaza Ice Cream” if:

  • You’re looking for something cold and refreshing to eat — sometimes nothing beats cold, fresh-tasting ice cream on a hot day
  • You’re okay with a fairly basic ice cream treat — you can turn things up a notch by adding toppings, like the peanut butter sauce, or mixing flavors, but you won’t find any SUPER elaborate ice cream desserts here right now
  • You’re looking for a sweet (and Instagrammable) snack to enjoy in front of the Castle

You might want to say “I’ll scream for something else” if:

  • You’re looking for more elaborate or some over-the-top ice cream treats — you’ll want to head to places like Beaches & Cream for that!
  • You don’t want something sweet — ice cream is ultimately a sweet treat. If you want something savory, you’re better off heading to places like Casey’s Corner or grabbing some spring rolls!
  • You want a sit-down spot where you can enjoy your ice cream. The Plaza Ice Cream Parlor is a quick-service spot and you’ll have to take that ice cream outside to enjoy it on a nearby table or bench. If you want to get an ice cream snack and enjoy it in air conditioning, you may want to stop by Beaches & Cream or even the nearby Plaza Restaurant.

Overall

Overall, the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor serves up some fresh and delicious Edy’s ice cream. The options were fairly simple though. We seriously miss more unique creations like the All-American Sundae and those cookie ice cream sandwiches. The menu could change in the future though, so we’ll be on the lookout for any updates!

Don’t forget that you can spice things up and try to recreate old favorites by adding toppings like the peanut butter sauce!

In general, if you’re looking for a delicious, simple ice cream treat in Magic Kingdom, the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor can be a great choice. We were thrilled to see it open again and to have the opportunity to enjoy our ice cream in the shade with a view of Cinderella Castle!
