G’day, Mate! We’re heading to the Australia Booth to check out the eats and drinks available there for the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival!
We tried the returning snacks and some new drinks at the booth, so read on to find our full review!
Menu
The Australia booth menu is very similar to what we’ve seen in the past, with some very familiar food items like the Grilled Sweet and Spicy Bush Berry Shrimp, the Roasted Lamb Curry, and the Deconstructed Pavlova.
For beverages, there are three wine choices — or you can get the wine flight and try them all! There’s also a Coopers Brewery Original Pale Ale.
Eats
We needed to try a few snacks for the Australia eats experience, so we grabbed one of each of the options available! All of the food dishes were returning from Australia’s last appearance at the festival in 2019.
First, we had the Grilled Sweet and Spicy Bush Berry Shrimp with Pineapple, Pepper, Onion, and Snap Pea, which is a gluten-friendly and wheat-friendly option!
With the dish, you’ll get three good-sized shrimp that actually had a bit of a kick to them! They were cooked really well and we appreciated the flavor overall. We did notice that even though the menu mentioned pineapple, there was no pineapple with our serving.
However, the other components really matched well with that spicy shrimp flavor. Our favorite was the snap peas, and we honestly wish we could’ve had more! You can order the Grilled Sweet and Spicy Bush Berry Shrimp for $6.
We also tried the Roasted Lamb Chop with Sweet Potato Purée, Bush Berry Pea Salad, and Pistachio-Pomegranate Gremolata. This was on our “Best of the Festival” list in 2019! And we have to say that this year, it’s a pretty strong contender again. The chop itself was super flavorful and very tender — we think you’d like it even if you’re not a big lamb person.
In our experience, it’s more similar to a pork chop and was very juicy. As far as the “encrusted pistachio” goes, we found that ours was just really sprinkled on the top, not encrusted. And for a little extra fruitiness, the pomegranate seeds were a fun touch.
The chop also came with some potatoes that weren’t listed on the menu, which we thought were pretty basic but still good. But one of the things we were most surprised by was the Bush Berry Pea Salad. We loved the mix of textures that the peas added and the onions took things up a notch. You can get all of this with the Roasted Lamb Chop for $8.25.
Of course, we needed to finish off our snacking with a dessert! At the Australia Booth, you can find the Deconstructed Pavlova with Pastry Cream, Citrus-macerated Berries, and Lemon Myrtle Meringue for $4!
It’s pretty cheap for a festival item, but is it worth it? Well, we think it might be! The pastry cream was really light, which is perfect for a hot summer’s day like today.
The fruits added a lot of freshness that we appreciated and the meringue was slightly lemony, but not so much that it was obnoxious or threw off the balance of the other components. This dessert also made it on the 2019 Best of the Fest list, and we remember why!
You may also want to note that both the Roasted Pork Chop and the Deconstructed Pavlova are gluten- and wheat-friendly dishes.
Beverages
Let’s stalk about the drinks! We tried all the new wines in the Wine Flight from Australia! You can get this flight of 3 for $6.50.
First, there was the Cape Mentelle Sauvignon Blanc Semillon. We found this wine to be nothing particularly special. It was sweeter than the other options, but not actually very sweet at all. Great for a sip or two, but not something we’d likely order again. This drink costs $6 on its own, or you can get a smaller portion with the wine flight.
We also tried the Robert Oatley Chardonnay, which we’d simply describe as “nice.” There wasn’t anything terribly remarkable about it either, but we did enjoy the dryness of it. It’s $6 on its own as well.
The last new wine was the Château Tanunda Grand Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon. This one was surprisingly tangy as if it needed to sit and breathe a little bit longer. Definitely not one of our favorites. You can order it on its own for $6.
That’s all from Australia for now, but stay tuned to DFB for the rest of our day at the 2021 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival! We’ve got reviews of all the booths coming your way.
