We are eating and drinking our way around the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival. And what’s a food festival without France? Serving up delicious dishes like Tarte Tropezienne and Braised Duck Confit à l’Orange, this spot has been a longtime favorite over here at DFB!

Home to the Food and Wine Festival’s mascot Remy, France consistently has excellent eats each year! But will France continue its hot streak this year? Let’s find out!

Menu

There are BIG changes to France’s menu this year, with none of last year’s favorites returning!

However, there are plenty of great wine options and some new delicious dishes calling our names!

So  let’s get to it, shall we! Allons-y!

Eats

We’re going to start with the new Beignet aux Trois Fromages, a Warm Beignet filled with Three Cheeses is available for $5.75! The beignet is actually sweet, so it doesn’t mix well with the warm cheese filling, which is more like a cheesy gravy. You know how much we love cheese, and we can say that the cheese on top was yummy.

We think this would have been better if it had ham and cheese inside and maybe dusted with powdered sugar, like a Monte Cristo. It’s not terrible and we think it’s an interesting combination of flavors, but they just don’t work.

The France booth also offers Coq au Vin, Pommes Dauphine, which is Chicken braised in Burgundy Wine with Bacon and Puffed Potatoes! We previously tried this at the EPCOT Festival of the Arts earlier this year at Cuisine Classique booth in Germany. And well, we were in for another surprise — the chicken was pretty dry.

And that’s not all — the puffed potatoes were also dry! In fact, the best part of this dish for us was the pearl onions! This could be a case of the booth working everything out on the first day, but we’re a little surprised because the Coq Au Vin was previously a hit with us. This item is available for  $6.25.

Also returning is the Croissant aux Escargots, which is an Escargot Croissant with Garlic and Parsley. We last saw this one in 2015! You can grab it this year for $6.25.

Looking for something sweet? The Crème Brûlée au Grand Mariner, a Vanilla Crème Brûlée with Grand Marnier Liqueur, is also available! And here’s the thing, this crème brûlée was — how shall we put it? — jiggly. It was jiggly as if it weren’t completely set. It still tasted pretty good, but we’ve definitely had better here. We even think it’s possible that it set out too long.

The caramel sugar on top was really good and added a nice crunch. The Grand Marnier flavor here is VERY strong, but we still enjoyed it.

This sweet treat will set you back $5.50!

Beverages

Walking around the Food and Wine Festival can be exhausting! Thankfully, France is offering refreshing Evian Sparkling Cucumber and Mint Water with Magnesium and Zinc for $4.75! So, the water actually DID impress us — it was great! We found it super refreshing.

The cucumber taste is stronger than the mint, but the mint flavor sort of stays on your tongue a little longer. It’s very much like spa water, and yes — we hope we can buy this at our local grocery store!

If you’re hitting up the Food and Wine Festival for brunch, try the Strawberry Rose Mimosa for $8.50! The mimosa was also really good. We loved the strawberry flavor and were happy to discover this wasn’t one of those super sweet drinks. Also, LOOK AT THIS PRETTY COLOR.

If you’re looking for a nice twist on the classic mimosa, you’ll want to give this drink a try!

Want to cool off? Try France’s returning La Passion Martini Slushy for $12.50. So this drink was…acceptable, but we would argue that the regular slushies you can get in France are generally better.

However, we think this one will be SUPER popular on Instagram — it’s very photogenic.

And the Rosé Pétillant Méthode Traditionnelle Champenoise is back for another year! This is made with Rosé Sparkling Wine and Pink Flamingo. We’ve always thought this was such a refreshing drink! Try it for yourself for $12.50.

Of course, it wouldn’t be the France booth without wine! This year, the booth will also be offering Chardonnay for $5…

… and if Chardonnay isn’t your style, they also have a Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot Blend for $6.

Both of these wines were delicious and potentially the best we’ve had all day! The red had a smooth full body and the white was crisp and not too dry!

Overall

Okay, so we typically look forward to everything at the France booth at every EPCOT festival, and we found ourselves a little disappointed with this year’s EPCOT Food and Wine offerings. We don’t know what’s going on, as this booth is usually great, but at least today, the food felt a bit off from what we generally expect. However, most of the drinks DID impress us. Maybe tomorrow will be better!!
