Over the past few days and weeks, the world has seen what some are calling “the pandemic of the unvaccinated.”
As COVID-19 case numbers rise in Florida, government officials are encouraging everyone to get vaccinated and recommending mask-wearing indoors once again. Now, it seems that these updated mask rules will affect Central Florida theme parks soon.
In a press conference today, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings officially recommended that all people go back to wearing masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status. He pleaded with businesses and residents to follow these guidelines and encouraged everyone to get vaccinated. He also shared that he has signed an executive order declaring a state of emergency.
After sharing statistics on the pandemic in Orange County, the mayor accepted questions from the press. One question from News 6 asked the mayor if he expects the theme parks like Disney World, Universal Orlando, and SeaWorld to follow this new guidance. His answer? “I expect the theme parks to follow the recommended CDC guidelines.”
Yesterday, the CDC updated its guidelines, asking that all people return to wearing masks indoors. If the mayor expects Disney, Universal, and others to follow this advice, then it’s likely that we’ll be getting some announcements from the theme parks soon. Currently, masks are optional at Disney World for vaccinated guests (except on certain transportation) and optional outdoors for unvaccinated guests.
We’ll make sure to let you know as soon as we hear from the theme parks, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest. We’ll be following all the health and safety guidelines in Florida to keep you updated!
