A lot of things have changed at Disneyland since it first reopened in April.
More restaurants have reopened, more of its hotels have reopened, and even a whole new land (Avengers Campus) has become available for fans to enjoy. And now, if you’re planning to stay at a Disneyland Resort hotel in the future, there’s a new digital feature you need to know about!
Earlier today, Disneyland announced that hotel guests will soon be able to utilize the existing online check-in service AND go straight to their rooms as they’ll be able to open their hotel room door using a digital key. This digital key will allow guests to unlock their hotel rooms with their smart devices. This is something that is already in place in Disney World and can be accessed through the My Disney Experience app. But soon Disneyland hotel guests will be able to enjoy it too through the Disneyland app!
Keep in mind the use of the digital key will be optional. If you want to use the digital key, here’s what you’ll need to do:
- First, you’ll need to link your Disneyland Resort hotel reservation to your Disney account — you can do that online or through the Disneyland app.
- Then, you’ll want to complete your online check-in. You can do this up to five days prior to your arrival. Or, you can check-in at the Front Desk when you arrive.
- Once your room is ready, you’ll be able to locate your room number within the digital key feature after you’ve signed into your Disney account on the Disneyland app. Again, if you use online check-in you’ll be able to bypass the front desk and go straight to your room.
- Once at your room, you’ll tap the “Unlock Door” button and hold your mobile device against the door lock. Keep in mind, you must be using a Bluetooth-enabled device and you’ll need to download the latest version of the Disneyland app.
The digital key can do more than just let you into your room though. It also lets you charge select dining and shopping items to your hotel room from the Disneyland app. And you’ll be able to access designated hotel areas that require a key (like the pools and fitness centers) by using the digital key.
Again, you’ll need to be signed into your Disney account on the Disneyland app to access the digital key feature. Also, keep in mind that the Disney account holder who is marked as the “primary guest” on the hotel reservation is the only guest that will be able to activate the digital key.
The digital key option is currently available at the Disneyland Hotel and Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. Disneyland has shared that they look forward to introducing the digital key feature to Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel in the future.
If you want a traditional key instead of the digital key, you’ll be able to get that from the front desk. But, if you want to skip those lines at the front desk and just head straight to your room, check out the digital key feature!
We’ll keep an eye out for more updates from Disneyland and let you know what we find!
