Rides and hotels across Disney World are constantly being updated and improved, so we see them close for construction or other reasons periodically.
Just so that you’re aware of any closures that are happening during your Disney World trip, we checked out which rides and hotels are expected to be closed soon. Keep in mind that rides can still close unexpectedly if bad weather, technical difficulties, or other issues create problems that make them unsafe to ride. We can anticipate some of the refurbishments, though! Here’s a list of all the scheduled Disney World closures for September.
Let’s begin by looking at the rides in Disney World that won’t be available in September.
Rides
We’ve got pretty good news for you here! Only one Disney World park has any rides on the list for September refurbishments: Disney’s Magic Kingdom.
Magic Kingdom
The Walt Disney World Railroad has been closed for a while now.
Construction on the new TRON: Lightcycle Run ride in Tomorrowland interrupted the train tracks, so the railroad and all its stations are closed.
It looks like construction is coming along slowly on TRON, but it’s not nearing completion just yet. The WDW Railroad is going to be closed through all of September, and likely for quite some time in the future, at least until TRON is much closer to being finished.
The only other scheduled closure for attractions is the Main Street Confectionery on Main Street, U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom.
The candy shop is getting a pretty major makeover to its interior, and it’s scheduled to be closed for all of September at least.
For now, you can satisfy your sweet tooth at locations like Plaza Ice Cream Parlor or Big Top Treats inside Big Top Souvenirs!
Rides That Will Open Soon
Some other rides around Disney World aren’t technically closed — because they haven’t opened at all yet! Let’s take a quick look at which rides are under construction in the parks right now. First, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in EPCOT is set to open on October 1st as part of the 50th Anniversary Celebrations! Right now it is open for Cast Member previews and will be open throughout September for Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club Members.
We already mentioned TRON: Lightcycle Run over in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom. This ride doesn’t have an official opening date yet, but construction is coming along pretty well from what we can see. It originally was going to open by the 50th as well, but Disney World’s closure last year slowed down the project a little. We’ll keep you updated if we hear anything else about the ride’s timeline!
Another ride we’re super excited for is Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind coming to EPCOT! This is another ride that was meant to open by the 50th but was delayed.
Disney hasn’t released any more info about when it might open, but we’ll let you know as soon as we hear something!

That’s about it for the rides and attractions that will be closed, so let’s move on to another essential part of your Disney vacation: the hotels.
Hotels
There are a few different sections for Disney World Hotel closures — we’ll look at reopenings across the property, hotel lounges that are coming back soon, and refurbishments happening at a few resorts.
Hotel Reopenings
Almost all the hotels on Disney World property have reopened now, with Animal Kingdom Lodge being the most recent.
We’re still waiting on a few stragglers, though! Disney’s All-Star Music Resort is set to open on September 16th…or is it?
We’ve been seeing some strange things happening with reservations at this Value Resort in Disney World. But as of writing, Disney hasn’t said there will be any delays to the reopening!

Disney’s Port Orleans Resorts are next on the list to reopen, but not until after September. Port Orleans – Riverside is set to reopen on October 14th, 2021, and Port Orleans – French Quarter will reopen on October 28, 2021.
You can book reservations now for both of these hotels in Disney World.
The last hotel to join the party will be Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort, which has a reopening date of December 9th, 2021.
Reservations are now open for this Value Resort, so you can book your stay ASAP!
Club Level
In several hotels around Disney World — even reopened ones — Club Level lounges inside have remained closed. Disney released a list of reopening dates for these lounges, and several of them are coming back soon!
- Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa: September 16th, 2021
- Disney’s BoardWalk Inn: September 23rd, 2021
- Disney’s Contemporary Resort: September 26th, 2021
- Disney’s Wilderness Lodge: December 16th, 2021
- Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort: December 16th, 2021
You’ll be able to grab drinks at the resort’s lounge again when they reopen this year.
Hotel Refurbishments
All-Star Movies has been open for a while now, but they’re undergoing a refurbishment right now with updates to the hotel’s lobby.
The construction is expected to last through October of this year. Over at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, there’s a LOT of construction happening.
Updates are coming to the hotel’s guest rooms, with a new Incredibles theme!
The lobby is being renovated, so guests are asked to go to the second floor for check-in and concierge services.
And The Wave…of American Flavors is being reimagined as Steakhouse 71, which gets its name from the year Disney World opened. This new restaurant is set to open in time for the 50th Anniversary Celebrations, which begin October 1st.
In the meantime, you can still enjoy the Wave’s breakfast up in California Grill’s dining room!
We went up to try out the new Wave breakfast spot, and we were big fans of the awesome breakfast views!
Over at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, the Monorail Station is still closed for updates.
We rode through it on the Monorail, but it doesn’t stop at this station. We’re expecting to see it reopen soon, since the last time we were there the tarps were coming down!
At Disney’s Old Key West Resort, the lobby and check-in area are getting updates as well.
Guests will be redirected to another area for check-in services. This refurbishment is expected to last through late September 2021.
Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa is also getting some updates to the lobby, which is expected to be closed through late October 2021.
Cast Members and signs will direct guests to the temporary location for check-in and concierge services.
That wraps up our tour through all the rides and hotels that will be closed in Disney World this September! Keep following DFB, and we’ll let you know about all the updates in Disney World.
