If you’ve been wishing on the evening star (Evangeline, of course) for a little news regarding the reimagining of Splash Mountain, today’s your lucky day.
The attraction will pick up after Tiana and Naveen’s kiss and will portray Tiana as she bands together with Naveen and Louis to host “…a one-of-a-kind Mardi Gras celebration where everyone is welcome…”.
Imagineers recently gathered in New Orleans at Dooky Chase’s Restaurant (the founder of which, Leah Chase, was one of the inspirations behind Tiana), and they’ve given us a bit of a sneak peek at both their conversation and at the plans for the attraction’s upcoming changes at Walt Disney World and Disneyland.
Take a virtual trip to The Big Easy and check out the conversation and attraction details in the video below:
Want even more Tiana-inspired magic to celebrate the start of World Princess Week? Take a look below at the first piece commissioned to help the Imagineers as they craft the attraction’s future. It was painted by “Sharika Mahdi — a visual artist, art educator, and alumna of the renowned YAYA (Young Aspirations Young Artists) Arts Center located in New Orleans.”
To celebrate all of these developments, our love and appreciation for New Orleans, and our commitment to arts education, Disney announced a $50,000 donation to the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), a regional, pre-professional arts training center that offers students intensive instruction in culinary arts, dance, media arts, classical instrumental music, jazz instrumental music, classical vocal music, drama, musical theatre, theatre design, visual arts and creative writing.
As announced last week, a Tiana-inspired playground will debut in EPCOT this week and princess-themed treats will make their way in to the parks and resorts. If you’ll be in Walt Disney World this week, keep a sharp eye out for the limited time magic.
