Disney has six different theme parks worldwide, owns several huge movie franchises, is one of the biggest names ever in entertainment, and seems to have a hand in almost every industry there is.
The company is massive now, but it had humble beginnings when Walt Disney began work in the early 1900s. As a tribute to Walt and his brother Roy Disney, their first Los Angeles home is being saved from destruction and renovated as a Los Angeles Historical Cultural Monument.
Walt and Roy Disney lived at 4406 West Kingswell Avenue in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles when they were young, now called the Charlotte and Robert Disney House (after their aunt and uncle who owned the house). According to Deadline, new owners of the home applied for a permit in 2016 to tear it down and build a new home in its place, but public outcry convinced them not to do it.
Instead, the house is going to be renovated and named a Los Angeles Historical Cultural Monument. There are plans to restore it, including “the shed where Walt allegedly finished his ‘Alice Comedies,’ which launched his career” (Deadline). The plans include an exact replica of this garage, where Walt animated those comedies. The restoration will bring back period-appropriate colors from the 1920s with new landscape features as well.
