I’m always excited when a new Walt DIsney World snack debuts. And I always have high hopes that the new snack will deliver on theming, taste, and value. Unfortunately, many Disney snacks just don’t live up to their potential. Thankfully, today’s new snack (cue the hallelujah) does!
The Muppets Haunted Mansion Chocolate Eclair debuted today at PizzeRizzo in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and I’m delighted to say that this dessert is one to add to your must-eat list if you’ll be in the park this Fall.
The chocolate eclair shell (which is good in its own right) is filled with creamy dark chocolate mousse. The purple buttercream is the weak link of the dessert, but, while lacking in taste, its bright hue still scores points. You’ll find crunchy pearls in varying shades of purple dotting the icing, and the treat is topped with one of four Haunted Mansion stretching room portraits starring the lovable Muppets.
Friends, this is good. If you watched Craig and I recently review the latest additions to Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo’s menu, you know that a chocolate choux pastry eclair was utilized in their new dessert. Unfortunately, the eclair’s usage at Docking Bay 7 fell flat for me; PizzeRizzo’s, however, is spot on. The eclair shell has a rich and deep cocoa flavor, and the dark chocolate mousse borders on a ganache, making it the star flavor-wise of the dessert.
But, of course, the real star here is the Muppets Haunted Mansion-themed stretching room portrait. There are four portraits in all, and, although I was told by a PizzeRizzo manager today that all four will be available at any given time, only Crazy Harry’s was being offered when I stopped by. It’s important to keep in mind that it’s the treat’s first day, so I can’t knock them too horribly for that. And can we all just collectively say how good it is to see a new Muppets-themed anything in a Disney park? We can save the debate as to whether or not the snack should be offered at PizzeRizzo (I mean it is Rizzo’s pizza joint, after all and Muppet*Vision 3D is right across the courtyard) or whether it should be offered in Magic Kingdom’s Liberty Square near the Haunted Mansion and in proximity to where the Muppets used to perform Great Moments in American History. I’m torn and I’d love your thoughts in the comments section below.
The eclair is $5.49 and can be purchased via the mobile order function in My Disney Experience or in person.
By the way, every cast member that I interacted with today at PizzeRizzo was amazing. The level of service was very high, and one cast member was even making his way around the tables as the time neared 1pm to make sure that guests without a Rise of the Resistance boarding group knew that the afternoon boarding group release was approaching. How kind is that?!
If you love the Muppets or chocolate OR BOTH, place the chocolate eclair on your snack list. And then let me know what you thought. Happy snacking!
