COVID-19 cases are rising across the country.

And with many kids returning to school and the fact that there still isn’t a vaccine available for kids under 12 years old, the CDC is concerned about travel this Labor Day weekend. They’ve recommended that unvaccinated people not travel at all, and vaccinated people should consider the risks before doing so.

According to CNN Health, “the director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is asking unvaccinated Americans not to travel during the Labor Day holiday weekend.” They also advised vaccinated people to “take precautions” with their travel and consider canceling travel plans.

This is in light of the recent increase in COVID-19 cases in America. According to Johns Hopkins University, the U.S. is seeing an average of more than 160,000 new COVID cases each day. About 40% of Americans ages 12 and older are still not vaccinated yet, which the CDC says may contribute to this rise in cases.

One of the biggest concerns with COVID right now is that children under 12 cannot get the vaccine yet, and many of them are returning to school soon. Cases in children are rising, which has caused concern with the American Academy of Pediatrics. Over 200,000 children tested positive for COVID last week.

The CDC’s recommendation to limit travel this coming holiday weekend is an effort to keep COVID cases lower as kids continue to return to school. Airlines are also reporting lower bookings for this holiday weekend, although they’re still expecting more travelers than they saw this time last year.
