NEWS: LA County to Implement Vaccine Requirement/Negative COVID-19 Tests at Theme Parks

To ensure we are equipping our readers with all the information they need, we will continue to report on all travel, safety, and COVID-related news that could impact a Disney Parks visit.

The global pandemic continues to impact the theme park industry.

COVID-19 caused extended shutdowns of theme parks in 2020, and then when they returned, there were several safety measures implemented like masks, temperature checks, and social distancing. Some of those safety measures have been reduced or done away with altogether as the pandemic continues, especially once vaccines became widely available. Vaccine mandates have been issued by President Biden, companies like the Walt Disney Company, and by individual cities and counties. And soon, Los Angeles County will be requiring proof of vaccination in more locations.

Starting on October 7th, Los Angeles County in California will require proof of at least 1 vaccination dose for patrons and workers at indoor bars, breweries, wineries, nightclubs, and lounges. They are also strongly recommending proof of vaccination for indoor restaurants. Both vaccination doses are required by November 4th.

Proof of at least 1 dose or a negative test (within 72 hours) will be required for workers and attendees at outdoor events with over 10,000 people. Outdoor mega events will also have to comply to these rules by October 7th for the first dose, and November 4th for the second dose. People attending indoor mega-events already have to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test is L.A. Los Angeles County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said that theme parks WILL be included in this. This means the order would impact Universal Studios Hollywood, Knott’s Berry Farm, and Six Flags Magic Mountain. Disneyland would not be affected by this particular order as it is located in Orange County.

Ferrer said, “At these venues there is a testing option, and many of the venues are going to be offering testing on site. Cause you can use an antigen test now so you can get tested, get your results in 10 minutes, and then be able to come in as long as you’re negative. So we’re working through that and apprecite that concern. Until recently, theme parks were not considered under the outdoor events definition/outdoor venue definition, but the state changed that a few days ago so they will be included in this…We’re meeting with them this week as well so we can hear their concerns and address them.”
