Disney recently announced a new planning program called Disney Genie.

The program will be part of the My Disney Experience App and have features like a personalized itinerary, forecasted wait times, and even a virtual assistant. There is also a paid version, Disney Genie+, that is replacing the FastPass+ system at the parks. In addition, you will also be able to pay for individual rides in high demand that you want to skip the line for. And, we finally know the exact day that Disney Genie is launching in Disney World!

Disney Genie will launch in Disney World on October 19th, 2021! We do not currently have a launch date for Disneyland.

That’s right, starting in a little over a week and a half, you’ll be able to use this brand new planning tool to navigate the parks!

Genie is a bit confusing, but don’t worry, because we’ve broken it all down for you and answered all your questions! Here’s a quick refresher on the program to keep you in the know before it launches.

Genie is a FREE program in My Disney Experience that will create an itinerary for you based on what you like. It will adapt with you throughout the day and is supposed to make your day in the parks easier. It also will be the place to see forecasted wait times, mobile order, and check on virtual queues, among other things.

Genie+ is a PAID program that is replacing the FastPass+ program. It is $15 per ticket, per day in Disney World. This program will allow you to make one ride selection at a time unless the ride reservation you have is 2 or more hours away.

For example, if you really want to ride Splash Mountain, but can only get a reservation for 6PM that night, you can book that reservation and then book another one before it, as long as it’s 2 or more hours prior. So, you could reserve Jungle Cruise for 10AM and still have that 6PM Splash reservation.

Once you make a reservation for an attraction, you will show up during your time window and enter through the new Lightning Lanes (which are just the old FastPass lanes) which will allow you to skip the majority of the Standby line. Genie+ will include 45 rides in Disney World.

Jungle Cruise Lightning Lane

The individual attraction selections are separate from the Genie+ program. Each park will have a couple high demand rides that fall under this category. You can pay individually to use the Lightning Lane at these rides, and you can only pay for 2 of these rides per day. The Lightning Lane at these rides is only for people who paid for that individual attraction — the Genie+ program will not allow you to use the Lightning Lane at these rides.

And, you can still wait in standby lines at all the rides in Disney World completely free, so you don’t have to pay for this new system if you don’t want to! We can’t wait to test out Genie for ourselves and see how it impacts our day in the parks. We’ll keep you updated with all the Disney Genie news, so stay tuned to DFB for more!
