Earlier this year, Club Cool made its triumphant return to EPCOT’s Future World with a TON of updates! This shop is known for its selection of international Coca-Cola drinks, which range from delicious and downright devious.
The highlight of the store was and remains the FREE samples of international sodas guests could try. With the reopening, some of the flavors got a switch up! Today, we’re ranking all eight of the flavors that Club Cool has to offer, which include some old favorites and some new additions, from worst to best!
Before we dive into the ranking, it’s worth noting that Club Cool’s flavors are very reliant on personal taste. Something that’s the worst drink EVER to us might be an absolute favorite to you and drinks that we love might be terrible to you!
There’s no “one true” correct ranking for Club Cool drinks, but it’s still fun to compare them! We polled our team members that have had the luck (misfortune?) of trying the new flavors and these are the results. Now, with that in mind, let’s get into the list!
#8: Smart Sour Plum (China)
Sour Plum Tea has existed in China for over 1,000 years but Coca-Cola’s attempt to replicate it as a soda is less than stellar. The savory, almost vinegary flavor reminded us of drinking a bottle of barbecue sauce (an action which, at least in our experience, isn’t a particularly enjoyable thing to do).
We don’t seem to be the only ones picking up the barbecue similarities here. We’ve heard other guests taste this and gasp that it tastes like the condiment too! This is our least favorite flavor by a longshot but it’s still worth a try, especially if you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to drink a rack of ribs.
#7: Royal Wattamelon (Philippines)
Royal Wattamelon is supposedly a “refreshingly sour” watermelon soda but we’re still waiting on the “refreshing” side of this drink to kick in. However, we definitely got the “sour”, and by “sour”, we mean this definitely pursed our lips for a while! It’s SUPER sour and not in a fun Warheads way, more of a “there’s something wrong with this drink I need a gallon of milk to cleanse my tastebuds” way.
We highly recommend this drink if you want to prank someone with a drink that’s allegedly “refreshing”. Fans of mega tart sips might love this one though!
#6: Beverly (Italy)
Controversial opinion: Beverly is not nearly as bad as we remember. Still bitter and worthy of many jokes, but not as bad as we remember. Marketed as a non-alcoholic apertíf (a drink meant to prepare your palate and stomach for a meal), it never really took off in the Italian drink market. It actually isn’t in production anymore, but is still distributed for sampling at various Coca-Cola tasting stations in the US including, most notably, this one in EPCOT!
Regardless, this drink still makes your face scrunch in that “wow, it’s bitter!” way, but it’s better than drinking barbecue sauce (looking at you, Smart Sour Plum). Many people would have this at the bottom of their list, but maybe nostalgia about the first time we were tricked into drinking this soda is why we dislike it less than the last two drinks. If you’ve had other aperitifs, like Campari or Aperol, you might really enjoy this one. It’s back for a reason, guys!
#5: Viva Raspberry (Moldova)
Okay, we’ve made it to the flavors that we think are actually pretty good now! Viva Raspberry is a tart soda that has just a little bit of sweetness from the raspberry juice in it (think raspberry sparkling water, like LaCroix, but a hint sweeter). This is a great one if you’re looking for something fruity but not sickly sweet!
This Eastern European soda won us over, but it wasn’t as dazzling as the next couple of flavors! We’d recommend this if you’ve had enough sugary treats in one day and want to try a soda that has a delicate, sweet-but-tart flavor.
#4: Minute Maid Joy Apple Lychee (Korea)
If you’re not familiar with Lychee, it’s a tropical fruit that tastes similar to a grape and rose mixed together. It’s a very very mild flavor. Unlike many of the drink options at Club Cool, this drink isn’t carbonated! It’s actually more like apple juice with a hint of tropical and floral flavors to it. This one is great for the kiddos (or adults who love good apple juice!) and has an interesting, complex flavor.
Although a lot of drinks with floral notes aren’t necessarily winners, this one has a great balance of sweetness, tang, and floralness that was a winning combo in our book! Don’t let the description scare you, it’s just a slightly more complex apple juice!
#3: Bon Bon Anglais (Madagascar)
Bon Bon Anglais is a delicious drink from Madagascar that is very sweet and tropical, but it was creamy and smooth like a cream soda! This one is hard to capture in words, but it has notes of tropical fruits, almost like a POG juice (passion fruit, orange, and guava), mixed with the smoothness of cream soda.
This one is a definite crowd pleaser and there’s not an easy way to describe this drink! This is really one you need to taste for yourself but, in our experience, is delightful!
#2: Country Club Merengue (Dominican Republic)
Full disclosure: these next two flavors were almost tied for the top spot, and for good reason! It’s very accurate to name this drink after Merengue dancing because it feels like the sweet, tropical flavors are dancing around your mouth! This one tastes like one part cream soda, one part tropical juice.
This one and Bonbon Anglais were similar in some ways: both were creamy and tropical, but Country Club Merengue has a different fruity flavor and a very subtle fizzle that made it a more enjoyable sip to us.
#1: Cucumber Sprite (Russia)
Imagine the feeling of just relaxing in a spa, cucumbers on your eyes, and just vibing out to some calming music. That’s how refreshing this drink was for us! Cucumber Sprite is exactly what you’d imagine it is: Sprite that tastes like refreshing cucumber. This is very similar to cucumber water you might find in a swanky hotel, just with the fizz and sweetness of a Sprite!
The refreshing flavor of cucumber and the sweetness of Sprite were the perfect combo for us and we can see why this drink is starting to get some attention!
Bonus Round: Drink ‘Em All Together!
One of the other things we’ve tried at Club Cool involved channeling our inner 10 year old getting to fill up our soda cup at a fast food joint: mix em all together! (C’mon, you know you probably did it too as a kid!) This might not sound that appetizing, but it actually can lead to an interesting flavor experience if you’re up for it. What did it taste like? You’re gonna have to try it yourself to find out!
Club Cool’s new flavors and old favorites are all worth a try at least once, so head over to EPCOT and give them a shot! We’re always keeping up with the latest Disney news, so stay tuned here for more!
