Over the past year, Disney World has been sprucing up the parks and resorts in anticipation of the 50th Anniversary and the celebration is finally here!
And, since the 50th has begun, we’ve seen a ton of construction projects conclude to reveal brand new shows, shops, rides, and more. Disney KiteTails is finally live in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, all four of the park icons have transformed into beacons of magic, and we even got opening timelines for some of the most highly anticipated attractions coming to Disney World next year. But, there are still a few projects going on around the parks and resorts and it’s that time of the week that we check in on them!
Magic Kingdom
Main Street Confectionery
Speaking of construction projects that have wrapped up, we finally got to see the finishing touches put on the Main Street Confectionery and go inside for the big reveal this past week! Now you’ll find new window lettering and displays and a freshly painted exterior on the outside…
…and inside there’s a brand new layout with plenty of returning sweet treats and even a new customizable popcorn station.
The Main Street Confectionery is now open daily in Magic Kingdom, so be sure to stop by on your next trip to check it out for yourself!

Fantasyland
Even the ground at Magic Kingdom has been getting a bit of a makeover the past year, with work done on the flooring in Tomorrowland and Adventureland already. And, it looks like Fantasyland is next up on the list! This week we noticed that the cobblestone ground had been scored just out front of “it’s a small world” in preparation to be redone.
Currently, the area isn’t blocked off at all, so traffic is still flowing through Fantasyland like normal.
Ariel’s Grotto
Back at Ariel’s Grotto, we noticed that the entrance sign had finally made its way back. Back in August, the sign that sat up top on the rocks disappeared…
…but now it’s back!
If you’re not familiar, Ariel’s Grotto is the location that guests can meet and greet with Ariel, however, this has been closed since the parks reopened last year while all meet and greets have been suspended. It’s not clear whether the return of the sign could mean that Ariel’s Grotto might be welcoming guests back once again soon, however, we’ve seen quite a few different signs removed around the park just to get a fresh coat of paint recently.
Storybook Circus
Speaking of attractions getting a fresh coat of paint, this week the tents towards the back of Storybook Circus reopened after being blocked off for refurbishment.
Inside you’ll typically find plenty of seating and even some phone charging stations, so this can be a great place to escape from the heat when you’re at Magic Kingdom.

Disney Resorts
Disney’s Old Key West Resort
We also stopped by Disney’s Old Key West Resort this week and noticed that there was some new scaffolding and construction going on at one of the buildings.
The scaffolding is currently only located on the back of the building and there are a few construction barriers in the parking lot, but from what we could see, it appeared to be some routine maintenance to the exterior.
Disney’s Contemporary Resort
And, lastly, A LOT of the construction over at Disney’s Contemporary Resort has officially wrapped up! Now, the main lobby area is construction wall-free…
…and the new restaurant, Steakhouse 71, has officially opened replacing the former restaurant, The Wave.
And, even some of the newly renovated rooms reopened this week! Now they are fitted with a brand new Incredibles-themed look including new furniture, decorations, and more!
Currently, only the clubhouse floors have reopened, though a Cast Member confirmed with us that the rest of the floors will be reopening soon.
Of course, we’ll keep an eye out for when the rest of the tarps come down so stay tuned!

And, that’s a wrap on this week’s construction update! It sure is exciting to get to see the grand reveal of many of the projects that we’ve been tracking for months now and there are only more to come, so be sure you’re checking back here with DFB for the latest!
