PHOTOS: Something is MISSING From a Fan-Favorite Ride While Another is Demolished in Disney World

When you’re headed to Disney World, you’ll likely stumble upon a few ongoing construction projects big or small.

Construction can pop up anywhere!

While many of Disney’s big projects wrapped up just in time for the 50th Anniversary celebrations, construction scrims can still be found in a few select locations. So, to help you prepare for your next trip (or to indulge your curiosities), we’re bringing you the latest look at all the construction progress across the parks and resorts!

Magic Kingdom

PhilharMagic

Last month we learned that Mickey’s PhilharMagic would be closing in Magic Kingdom to install a brand new scene featuring characters from Pixar’s Coco. The attraction closed on October 11th, and it looks like it’s not just the show that’s getting a little bit of an update! At the beginning of the week, only construction walls could be seen out front of the entrance…

…and by the end of the week the Maestro Mickey was missing from the top of the sign and the rest had been covered.

…what it looks like now!

The attraction is set to reopen on November 11th, so we won’t have to wait much longer to see the new scene debut. And, in the meantime, we’ll be watching to see if any other changes come to the entrance area.

Ferry Boat Dock

We shared an update on the new gangway at the Magic Kingdom Ferry Boat dock last week, and now it is complete!

It is ready to use!

The new loading dock provides access to the second floor of the boat (so you don’t need to use the stairs), but according to a Cast Member that we spoke with it will only be used during busier times of the day or when the monorail is down.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Primeval Whirl

We’ve also been keeping a close eye on the removal of the retired attraction, Primeval Whirl, in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Over just a few weeks, it’s gone from the attraction that we once knew (and some of us loved) to a pile of metal.

There’s a lot going down here (literally!)

But, hey, now you’ve got a pretty good view of all the fun signage that surrounds DinoLand U.S.A.!

Feathered Friends in Flight

A few years ago, Disney transformed the long-time bird show in Disney’s Animal Kingdom to UP! A Great Bird Adventure. The show itself featured characters from the movie interacting with exotic birds, but the show has since reopened under a new name — Feathered Friends in Flight. And, this week we noticed that the change has finally made its way to the signage around the theater.

For reference, here’s what it looked like before…

…and here it is now!

New Signage

Well, that’s it for this week’s construction update from Disney World! Of course, we’re always keeping an eye out for all the latest updates, paint jobs, construction walls, and more, so be sure to stay tuned to DFB!
