It’s the second day of Disney World’s 18-month-long 50th Anniversary Celebration, and we can now see EARidescent colors when we close our eyes.
Those colors are EVERYWHERE — on Cinderella Castle, on merchandise, on the characters, and…yes, even on the food!
So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the next 50th Anniversary treat we’re having is EARidescent! But here’s the thing, the treat is Pineapple Upside Down Cake. Although it is a Standard Upside Down Pineapple Cake with a Traditional Rum Glaze, it also has EARidescent Buttercream Frosting on top. So that’s new… .
The cake itself is served warm — but the icing is not, which made it feel a little weird when we took the first bite. We also didn’t get a lot of pineapple flavor from it, except for the hidden slice of pineapple on top under the icing.
It does come with a little square of White Chocolate with gold anchors on it. And yes, those sprinkles are ALL over it.
But again, the icing overpowers the rest of the cake, and we thought plopping so much on top of it was an…interesting choice.
So although this wasn’t a solid win for us, it was…okay. If you like warm pineapple cake with a rum glaze, it might totally be your thing. But we feel like so much more could’ve been done here for a “special” dessert celebrating Disney World’s 50th. If you want to try it for yourself, it’s available now at The BOATHOUSE at Disney Springs for $10.
We’ll keep trying all the 50th anniversary foods we can find, so stay tuned for more reviews!
