The 50th Anniversary at Walt Disney World is in full swing, and if you’ve watched television at all recently, you’ve witnessed the cross-promotional merriment. But, maybe you can’t go yet? Maybe you have medical, financial, or work-related restraints making it impossible for you to attend the event just yet. There are ways to celebrate at home!
Relive your Disney History
Bring out the old photos and videos and remember your past visits to the parks. Get together with family and friends and talk about them. Swap stories and reminisce.
My family has several Walt Disney World scrapbooks, and it is always a joy to look through them and remember the fun times we had together. I also love to display pictures from our Disney vacations. Print out some of your old photos and display them throughout your house during the eighteen-month celebration. You can even create your own Disney scrapbook. Shutterfly offers some wonderful Disney-themed scrapbook options.
Cook your Favorite Disney Recipes
One of our favorite parts of a Disney vacation is the food. My sons love the Mickey waffles and pretzels. My husband loves Dole whips and the breakfast potatoes at ‘Ohana, and I love school bread from the Norway pavilion in Epcot and the Tonga Toast at the Kona Café. That’s just some of our favorites.
Find a copycat recipe online and make your own Disney feast. Our homemade Dole whips weren’t quite as good as the original, but they were a tasty substitution! For an easy recipe find, check out Deni Sunderly’s Saturday Snacks food articles. I enjoyed making Pooh Bear’s Mini Honey Buns from her article. They were a delicious, Disney-themed snack.
Watch Parade and Firework Videos
While watching a parade and fireworks show live is always the best experience, watching it online can also put you in the magical moment. A professional video is just a few clicks away.
Of course, some of the best videos are provided by the DIS. Check out the new Disney Enchantment Magic Kingdom Fireworks Show and Harmonious, Epcot’s new nighttime show, online today. If you can’t be there in person, it’s the next best thing and a great way to celebrate at home.
Watch Inspired Disney Movies
To immerse yourself in the magic, watch the movies that either inspired or were inspired by the Walt Disney World attractions. Pirates of the Caribbean is my favorite Disney attraction, so I love to watch the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. They connect me to the parks.
Other movies to watch include Peter Pan, Avatar, Aladdin, Dumbo, Beauty and the Beast, Toy Story, The Little Mermaid, and Star Wars. Pick your favorite and have a movie night!
Plan Your Next Visit
The best way to deal with not being about to travel is to plan your next adventure, no matter how far into the future it may be. Peruse the different Walt Disney World resorts online and pick the one you want to stay at. Consider which parks and attractions you most want to visit. Look at online menus and pick out which restaurants you want to eat at next.
