Disney World may have been busy with guests this past week for the holidays, but that hasn’t stopped Disney from making progress on some of their biggest upcoming attractions!
We’ve been keeping track of TWO highly anticipated roller coasters coming to both Magic Kingdom and EPCOT and this week we noticed some MAJOR progress at both locations. So, what are you waiting for — let’s take a look!
Magic Kingdom
TRON: Lightcycle Run
The last time that we checked in on the construction over at TRON: Lightcycle Run in Tomorrowland, we didn’t notice much of a change to the exterior portion of the ride. And, if you’re looking from afar even today, you may not see a difference with all the construction equipment, dirt, and orange fencing that is still in the area.
But, as you get a little closer, you can start to make out some of the details coming together. For example, on the left side of the image below, you can see the walkway that guests will take to enter the attraction taking shape.
Here’s a look at that walkway in the concept art!
Disney still hasn’t shared when we could be boarding a lightcycle for the first time yet, but it’s exciting to see more progress being made!

EPCOT
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
Over in EPCOT, we also saw some big progress on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind! The last time that we got a peek behind the construction walls from the highway in the sky (aka the monorail), we could see that pavement had been installed along with some new landscaping further from the attraction and near the upcoming PLAY! Pavilion (aka the big gold dome in the background).
Well, this week Disney pushed back the construction walls revealing this area to guests! Now there’s a lot more space to walk around as you make your way into (or out of) the park…
…and you can even get a closer look at the PLAY! Pavilion building!
Construction walls are still up around the main entrance to the attraction and near the big dome building, but we only have to wait until Summer 2022 to check it all out!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Kali River Rapids
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Kali River Rapids has been closed since November 1st, 2021 for refurbishment, and this week we got a peek at some of the construction walls surrounding the attraction.
For now, you can’t see much of what is happening behind the scenes here, but the water ride known to soak its guests is set to open sometime in mid-December 2021 (though the refurbishment calendar currently lists it as being closed through December 30th).

And, that’s it for another week of construction progress! We’ll continue to keep an eye out for more updates around the parks and resorts so be sure to stay tuned to DFB for the latest!
