We Did an Experiment to See Which Disney World Restaurant Has the BEST Tonga Toast!

Ah Tonga Toast, how we love thee. This delicious, cinnamon-sugar-covered, banana-filled, deep-fried breakfast item has been a longtime favorite of Disney fans and all of us here at DFB.

Who’s ready for Tonga Toast?

However, there isn’t just one Tonga Toast out there: Kona Cafe and Capt. Cook’s both feature the delicious dish. So, this begs the question…who has the BEST Tonga Toast? Let’s use science (and by science, we mean our mouths) to find out which restaurant has the toast with the most!

Kona Cafe is a table service restaurant at Disney’s Polynesian Resort known for delicious breakfast items like Macadamia Nut Pancakes and (of course) Tonga Toast, as well as an expansive selection of lunch items like sushi and specialty burgers!

Kona Cafe

Kona Cafe’s Tonga Toast, available for $16.00, features Banana-stuffed French Toast rolled in Cinnamon Sugar and served with a Strawberry Compote and your choice of Ham, Spiced Ham, Bacon, or Sausage. For the sake of comparison, we got sausage with this one and received two pieces of sausage that were on the larger side.

Capt. Cook’s is a quick-service offering at the Polynesian Resort, known for Polynesian-inspired dishes like the Aloha Pork Sandwich and the Pan Asian Noodles!

Captain Cook’s

The Tonga Toast from Capt. Cook’s, available for $9.29, features Banana-stuffed Sourdough Bread, Battered, Deep-fried, and Dusted with Cinnamon-Sugar served with Bacon or Sausage. We got sausage with this one and received four sausages that were moderately sized.

The Tonga Toast from Capt. Cook’s

So, how does this tale of two Tonga Toasts end? Well, the Tonga Toast from Capt. Cook’s, which came with four sausages and no sauce, was fried a bit better, making it crispier and tastier in our opinion (Note that this could have been unique to the batch of Tonga Toast we received!).

However, the sausages from Kona Cafe were much better and the strawberry sauce takes the toast to the next level! Even though the Kona Cafe has the sauce and the better sausage, it’s hard to justify paying nearly $7 more for strawberry sauce.

So, considering price, flavor, and sides, Capt. Cook’s takes the crown for us, but Kona Cafe’s is pretty delicious too. Ultimately, it really depends on your needs, your taste, and your budget. We’re always keeping up with the latest Disney news, so stay tuned here for more!
