In Disney’s fourth quarter earnings call, leaders in the company report on the company’s financial position.

This report indicates guest responses to Disney’s latest changes, and we often hear about upcoming projects as well. So far, we’ve heard updates about how Genie+ is doing in Disney World, the growth of Disney+, and more. Now, Disney has stated when they expect to recover from the loss of international attendance in the parks.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began last year, international travel has been much lower than in the past. Due to both travel restrictions and personal choice, fewer people are choosing to head overseas for their vacations.

Orlando International Airport

This hurt Disney World’s guest attendance since a lot of visitors from other countries come to Disney World for vacations. In fact, the Orlando Sentinel reported that 18 to 22% of Disney World guests were international visitors in 2013.

International visitors make up a large portion of Disney World guests

With the travel restrictions, that group dropped significantly, which resulted in a loss of revenue for Disney.

In their earnings call this quarter, Disney stated that they’re “looking forward to the return of international attendance,” but they don’t expect to see it fully recover until towards the end of the fiscal year 2022.

Although travel restrictions have been lifted, Disney expects that the recovery from loss of attendance over the last year and a half will take some time.

As a reminder, the US government lifted travel restrictions on November 8th, allowing foreign visitors inside the US if they are fully vaccinated and provide proof of a recent negative COVID-19 test.
