It’s Walt Disney’s birthday! And with us being…well…us…we think the best way to celebrate is WITH FOOD. So if you’re heading to Disney World OR if you’re just celebrating at home, we’ve got somee of Walt’s favorite foods that you can get at Disney World and recipes you can make at home!

How To Celebrate at Disney World

If you’re wanting to celebrate Walt’s birthday with food at Disney World, there are a TON of foods that were added for Disney World’s 50th Anniversary celebration that you can now try that feature some of Walt’s favorite meals and snacks! Walt was a big fan of simple and classic dishes, so here’s what you can get RIGHT NOW at Disney World.

Magic Kingdom

If you make it to Magic Kingdom on Walt’s birthday (or beyond!), be sure to order the Pressed Penny Silk Pie at Casey’s Corner. It’s a take on one of Walt’s favorite desserts — the French Silk Pie. The Casey’s version is made with a Chocolate Tart Shell and a Silky Chocolate Filling, topped with Sweet Whipped Cream and a Chocolate-Pressed Penny with Steamboat Willie on it! It’s available now for $6.49.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

You’ll want to head on over to The Hollywood Brown Derby to try the Filet Mignon with Walt Disney’s Roast Beef HashThis is a classic Filet Mignon with Hash served with by Haricots Verts and Red Wine Sauce. And it’s served the way Walt liked it — with a Fried Egg on top.

You’ll find Walt Disney’s Favorite Chili in a Bread Boule at Disney’s three value resorts —  at Landscape of Flavors in Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Everything POP! at Pop Century Resort, World Premiere Food Court at All-Star Movies, and Intermission Food Court at All-Star Music.

Walt’s Favorite Recipes

If you can’t get to Disney World, though — don’t worry! You can make some of Walt’s favorite recipes at home!

Uncle Walt’s Chili

So warning, Walt’s favorite chili recipe is a time-consuming process, but maybe it’s all the hard work that goes into it that made him love it so much.

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds of Pinto Beans, dry
  • 2 medium onions, sliced
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, diced
  • 2 pounds of lean ground beef
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 can (28 ounces) chopped tomatoes
  • salt & pepper to taste

Walt’s Chili at The Crystal Palace

Directions:

  • Wash and sort beans and soak overnight in cold water.
  • Drain beans and place in a 2 quart saucepan. Add fresh water to cover by 2 inches. Add sliced onion and simmer, covered for 2 hours until tender.
  • Heat oil in a large pan and saute’ garlic. Add beef and celery and cook until lightly browned. Add chili powder, paprika, and thyme. Mix in chopped tomatoes. Cover and simmer for 1 hour.
  • When beans are tender, combine with meat, stirring gently. Add salt and pepper to taste

Jiko’s Macaroni and Cheese

One of Walt’s favorite foods, according to his wife Lillian, was macaroni and cheese, and we think he’d approve of the delicious side dish that comes straight from Jiko at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 8 ounces shredded Italian four-cheese blend (such as mozzarella, asiago, fontina and provolone)
  • 1/4 teaspoon coarse salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 pound elbow macaroni, cooked and kept warm

Jiko Filet Mignon with Macaroni and Cheese and Red Wine Sauce

Directions:

  • Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add flour, stirring until combined. Cook, stirring frequently, for 5 minutes, or until golden (do not let brown).
  • Add milk to butter mixture, whisking until completely smooth and no lumps remain.
  • Simmer mixture, stirring frequently, until sauce coats the back of a spoon, 5 to 8 minutes.
  • Add cheese to saucepan in batches, stirring until completely melted. Add salt and pepper, stirring to combine.
  • Place cooked macaroni in a large bowl. Add cheese sauce, stirring to combine. Serve immediately.

4th of July Apple Pie

There’s nothing more American than Apple Pie, and, of course, it was one of Walt’s favorite desserts according to his daughter Diane. This recipe, inspired by our favorite at Whispering Canyon Cafe, is just about perfect in every way!

Ingredients:

PIE CRUST

  • 4 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon coarse salt
  • 1/3 cup 2% milk

APPLES

  • 1 cup water
  • 6 Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
  • 2 teaspoons apple pie spice

APPLE PIE BATTER

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Directions:

FOR PIE CRUST:

  • Combine butter, shortening, flour, sugar, and salt in bowl of electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. Mix at medium speed until crumbly.
  • Add milk and mix until incorporated.
  • Wrap dough in plastic wrap and rest in refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  • Roll to 1/4-inch thickness and place in 9-inch pie plate.
  • Set aside.

FOR APPLES:

  • Bring water to simmer in large pot.
  • Place apples in a steamer basket and add to pot. Steam for 10 minutes. Remove from water.
  • Cool to room temperature and toss with apple pie spice.
