Disney Genie launched in Disney World in October, and today it’s Disneyland’s turn!
We’ve been in the parks trying out both the free Genie and paid Genie+ and although all was well at first, we learned pretty quickly that things were going downhill. Check out what we’ve experienced so far today all before noon!
Disney Genie Goes Down
In Disneyland Resort, we could not use the free Genie services until 7AM or purchase Genie+ until we entered the theme park. Once we entered Disney California Adventure around 8AM, we were able to start reserving our first Lightning Lane. But then, around 10AM, Disney Genie went down. We began receiving an error message in the Disneyland app and have been unable to access either free or paid Genie+ services since.
A Cast Member told us they were resetting the server, but Disney Genie services seem to remain unavailable in the Disneyland app. We’re watching closely for more updates!
Disney Genie has arrived at Disneyland Resort!
Rides Closed
There are three Individual Attraction Selections (or pay-per-ride) available at Disneyland Resort, including Radiator Springs Racers and WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure in Disney California Adventure, and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance in Disneyland Park. Radiator Springs Racers, one of the pay-per-ride options, went down this morning and remains temporarily closed.
Another popular ride, Luigi’s Joy to the Whirl, also went down, which means longer wait times around Disney California Adventure.
We’ve experienced the closure of a ride we paid for in Disney World and received an “experience redemption” good for a Lightning Lane pass as soon as the ride reopened. If the ride was to remain closed all day, a Cast Member told us we’d receive a refund, so people who’ve already paid for Racers passes could experience either scenario today.

Disability Access Service
Perhaps as a consequence of Disney Genie going down, Disability Access Service (DAS) has also been unavailable, so Disneyland went old school with paper passes! DAS allows guests with disabilities a way around waiting in the typical standby line in Disney Parks. Generally speaking, people with a DAS pass can request access to a ride, and a Cast Member will give them a return time comparable to the current standby wait time.
On the inside of the paper booklet they wrote our attraction and the return time. This is how it was done before smartphones and Disney apps, folks!
Through Disney Genie, guests can register for a DAS pass virtually with a Cast Member, and when visiting Disney Parks, they can also virtually schedule DAS return times.

Phew! Poor Disneyland! Hopefully, these issues are resolved as the day continues, so we’ll be keeping you updated with everything happening in Disneyland Resort. Check back with us soon!
