There’s a super cool new Disney Archives exhibit and we’re taking a look inside!
The Bowers Museum, an art museum in Santa Ana California, is hosting a new Disney Exhibition — All That Glitters: The Crown Jewels of the Walt Disney Archives. We were invited to the media preview of the exhibit and we’re taking you with us!
All That Glitters opens at the Bowers Museum on December 12th and will let visitors see jewelry and accessories from Disney and 20th Century Studios films like Titanic, The Princess Diaries, and more!
The exhibit has three main sections — Jewelry Informs Characters, which explains what wearable accessories tell viewers about characters; Feature Vault, which offers a look at the most prized jewelry and accessories; and Reflections on Reality with displays that tie accessories back to the Disney films and parks.
The Exhibit
Let’s take a look at some of the exhibits!
First up, take a look at this intricate Jewelry Box from The Little Mermaid Live!
Fans of the live-action 101 Dalmations film will appreciate seeing trinkets worn by Glenn Closes’ Cruella De Vil!
We stared at the Cinderella Slipper for some time.
Look at those beautiful colors!
Props from The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe are especially enchanting. The White Witch’s crowns look super regal!
There’s a whole case dedicated to Tia Dalma from The Pirates of the Caribbean films…
…including her locket…
…and the stunt version of it as well.
Check out the Dick Tracy Radio Watches!
The case features some props that were used in the films and even a prototype.
The exhibit isn’t just little things either. You can also see some full costumes such as Genie from Aladdin…
…Queen Ingrith from Maleficent: Mistress of Evil…
…Mulan from Mulan…
…and more!
It was especially cool seeing the Freddy Mercury costume from Bohemian Rhapsody.
There are even a few non-film items like this World Series Ring from the Anaheim Angels.
Disneyland’s 50th Anniversary featured a brooch set that was worn by the park princesses.
When Pollyanna was released, they also sold promotional merchandise versions of her locket.
How historic!
And don’t worry superhero fans! There’s a TON of Marvel exhibits as well!
You can spot Black Panther’s necklace…
…and Doctor Strange’s Eye of Agamotto Necklace.
A few cases are FULL of crowns. It wouldn’t be Disney without some royal representation.
We especially liked seeing Loki’s headpiece.
And the Muppets Spork Crown from Muppets Most Wanted!
Perhaps some of the most iconic pieces in the room were necklaces like the Medallion Necklace from The Pirates of the Caribbean…
…or Chewbacca’s Metal of Valor from Star Wars!
Not to mention the Heart of the Ocean Necklace worn by Kate Winslet in Titanic!
Perhaps our favorite part of the exhibit, though, was the Every Little Detail wall. This case features SO many little items worn by so many different people in films. We could’ve stood here and admired the pieces for a WHILE.
Some of our favorites in this case include Wanda Maximoff’s rings from Marvel films…
…the Queen of Hearts’ rings from Alice in Wonderland…
…Jack Sparrow’s rings from Pirates of the Caribbean…
…a Brooch from The Haunted Mansion…
…and the Candy Ring from Deadpool. Nope, it’s not a REAL ring pop. It’s made with resin, but it sure does look realistic!
After you’re done checking out the wonders of the exhibit, you can swing by the Bowers Museum gift shop.
There are some special merchandise options for All That Glitters!
