Why Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure was a thumbs down for me.

That being said, here I go critiquing! On a recent vacation to Walt Disney World I rode the Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure attraction and left with disappointment. I was not comparing it to the newer attractions in Walt Disney World like Rise of the Resistance; I knew not to do that going in. However, by my third day, having easy availability to ride it by choice without a wait via the virtual queue, I chose not to. It was a one and done for me.

I won’t go into the details about the ride in full, because I don’t want to reveal spoilers for those who want to experience it themselves. I would like to highlight its shortcomings and weaknesses because I feel like Disney could and should do better with such a special, beautiful new area, in the French pavilion of Epcot’s World Showcase. And with some changes, maybe they still can.

Here are my top five issues I had with the attraction; let me know if you agree:

1. The music. An attraction MUST have a catchy song. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure doesn’t have a captivating tune. You need to leave the attraction singing a special memorable song all day. “Nothing Can Stop Us Now” from Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Need I say more? Music is soon to be released from Disney from “Remy” which was all composed by Michael Giacchino. I listened to the preview, and to me, it’s background music, lacking vocals, which for me doesn’t make for a lasting memory.
2. The glasses. You are provided with the narrowest, heaviest 3D glasses. I wear eyeglasses, so this was a problem. I basically couldn’t see. If I lifted my chin up it helped, but neck strain was real. I believe if the attraction had been redone a bit for modern technology we wouldn’t need the glasses at all. It’s also not very sanitary to stick your hand into a vat of glasses.
3. 2022. An attraction from 2014 without updates is an attraction from 2014. Plop it into 2021-2022.
4. WOW. Remy’s finale lacks the wow factor. It just sort of lays flat. You need to leave an attraction with an umph, leaving it memorable and ‘wow.’ As an example, Haunted Mansion has some magic at the end with a hitchhiking ghost hanging out with you in your doom buggy. Mickey’s PhilharMagic has Donald Duck stuck in a wall behind you. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure needs to have a more creative finale.
5. Projections. I’m tired of watching television. They try in this attraction to incorporate your other senses with a little splash of water on your face, but ultimately you are watching television from room to room. Nothing to sing, dance, or clap along to. So instead, one member of my party just became dizzy and I became bored.

How do you feel about Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure? If you haven’t been on the attraction, you need to join a virtual queue via the My Disney Experience. I am glad there is something for children in the World Showcase, however, a lot can be changed, and should be changed, to create it to be the best it can be.
