Although the Tower of Terror at Tokyo DisneySea is normally rather tame compared to the versions in the United States and France, for nearly a quarter of the year it gets quite the upgrade to help attract students to the park during the slow winter months. And for the first time since 2020, that version is returning to Tokyo DisneySea!
From January 6 through March 30, Tokyo DisneySea will present Tower of Terror Unlimited, which features two different ride sequences to keep guests visiting the Hotel Hightower on their toes! This is the first attraction overlay to return to Tokyo Disney Resort since the COVID-19 pandemic began, with the Country Bear Vacation and Jingle Bell Jamborees as well as Haunted Mansion Holiday Nightmare not appearing in 2020 or 2021.
For those unaware, the Tower of Terror at Tokyo DisneySea features a completely original backstory, taking place in the Hotel Hightower where explorer/plunderer/mogul Harrison Hightower III kept his ill-gotten gains from various expeditions across the world. But his luck turns around when he steals a cursed idol from an African tribe, Shiriki Utundu. He disrespects the idol and its curse, leading to his death on December 31, 1899. 12 years later, guests are part of a New York City Preservation Society tour of the abandoned hotel, but who knows whether the curse of Shiriki Utundu is true…
The first version, in Shaft A, is Tower of Terror: Level 13, which features an extra drop between the two show scenes as well as some irregular timing to keep anxiety up.
In Shafts B and C is Tower of Terror: Shadow of Shiriki, which features seven drops instead of the standard three, as well as one additional show scene and more appearances of Shiriki Utundu.
Tower of Terror Unlimited runs from January 6 through March 30, 2022 at Tokyo DisneySea, and is a welcome improvement over the standard version of the attraction.
