You Have to Time It *Just Right* to Get This Disney World Treat

You might not know that there is some amazing food in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Animal Kingdom

It’s true! Most people think of EPCOT when they think of great Disney food (and we don’t necessarily disagree), but Animal Kingdom definitely has some can’t-miss dishes and snacks. Some of these tasty snacks aren’t available year-round, though. Yesterday, we got a snack that’s actually really tricky to catch in this park!

Caravan Road is a kiosk located right outside the entrance to the Asia section of Animal Kingdom if you’re coming from the Africa section. It’s just across the Discovery River from the Tree of Life.

Unfortunately, this stand is usually closed. On Disney World’s website, it’s even listed as “temporarily unavailable.”

But when we stopped by yesterday, it was open for business!

It’s open!

On the menu were different flavors of shaved ice, including watermelon, mango passion fruit, piña colada, and a tropical mix. You could get any of these options with Snow Leopard Vodka added as well.

We weren’t gonna miss this opportunity to get a snack from this rarely open spot, so we grabbed the Mango Passion Fruit Shaved Ice, which is available for $4.99.

You bet we got one!

We thought this treat was delicious! It was very refreshing (perfect for a hot day in this park), and the flavors were more sophisticated than your average blue raspberry or cherry shaved ice. The most prominent flavor was mango, and we couldn’t really taste much of the passion fruit. So if you’re buying this as a huge passion fruit fan, you might be disappointed there.

So delicious!

The refreshing flavors made us feel like we were having a “grown up” snow cone, which we loved.

Although the flavor was more fresh and sophisticated, it definitely still came from a syrup. We really enjoyed it, but we can tell that it’s not actually mango nectar.

Not real fruit juice, but still delicious

So if you’re looking for a sweet, cold, refreshing treat, stop by Caravan Road to see if they’re open during your trip! But don’t get your hopes up too high — when we visited this stand again less than an hour later, it was closed again.

Um…what happened?

What happened? We asked some nearby Cast Members, and they told us that the hours vary depending on the day. Allegedly, the stand’s normal hours are about 11AM to 3PM, although that’s not always the case.

It’s like nothing ever happened here

So you’ll just have to take a chance during your trip and see if it’s available! If it is, we highly recommend that Mango Passion Fruit Shaved Ice. Keep following DFB for more updates on all the best food in Disney World!
