At the Destination D23 Expo last fall, Chairman of Parks, Experiences and Products Josh D’Amaro announced a multi-year expansion of Disneyland’s Downtown Disney District that will add more shopping, dining, entertainment, and green space to the resort!
The exact details of what’s to come to Disneyland’s shopping and dining district has yet to be announced. However, in order to make room for these changes, a few existing locations will close.
As part of the preparations for this multi-year expansion project to being, the boutique shop Sugarboo & Co. officially closed this past Saturday, January 15th.
In addition, two dining locations will soon close their doors. Earl of Sandwich‘s last day of operation will be Thursday, January 27th.
The Starbucks West will close a couple of days later, with its last day of operation being Saturday, January 29th. The second Starbucks location near World of Disney will still be available for guests to grab their favorite cup of coffee.
As of this writing, there has been no announcements yet regarding plans for ESPN Zone (which has been used for shopping event space since the restaurant’s closure) or Star Wars Trading Post, which moved into the former location of Rainforest Cafe last year. Both of these locations are in the same immediate vicinity as the three closing businesses.
In addition to the three closures mentioned above, the Disneyland Monorail will close temporarily beginning on February 14th to accommodate the construction happening in Downtown Disney (the Monorail stops at Tomorrowland in Disneyland Park as well as Downtown Disney). The Monorail is currently scheduled to be closed through Sunday, March 6th.
We’ll continue to keep an eye on the latest updates from Disneyland and we will let you know if we hear of any additional changes happening over at the Downtown Disney District!
