Nine new 50th anniversary food and beverage items were announced to debut today at the Magic Kingdom, but guests searching for them at the park have faced a series of disappointments instead.
The Always Tea Time Slush was set to launch at Cheshire Café, but the venue is closed for the season. Cast Members at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café told us that they might receive the slush sometime this week, but weren’t certain.
When we stopped by the Main Street Bakery this morning for an EARidescent cinnamon roll, Cast Members informed us that they could not serve the new roll until they sell out of the current, standard pastry. The new EARidescent cinnamon roll is the standard Mickey cinnamon roll, decorated with edible glitter and a 50th anniversary chocolate medallion. Cast Members said despite this, they can’t sell the decorated version yet, and advised us to check back “later.”
Pinocchio Village Haus actually had both new items, a Croque Monsieur Flatbread and “it’s a small world”-themed Tart, in stock. However, as pictured above, the advertised flatbread featured large slices of ham between layers of cheese. The flatbread served to us had diced ham cubes sprinkled on top.
Over at Sleepy Hollow Refreshments, the menu lists a chocolate and cherry Chilling Chambers Pop Featuring the Tightrope Walker. Instead, we received a push pop of undeterminable flavor (but definitely not chocolate or cherry) featuring the Quicksand Stretching Room Portrait.
Aloha Isle has discontinued the Showtime with José Float in favor of the new Crooning Flowers Float. However, the photo promoting the new concoction featured the same blue chocolate feather from José’s treat, whereas the actual float served is adorned with a (more appropriate) flower.
Finally, over at The Plaza Restaurant, where a new version of the Cheers to 50 Years Sundae was due to debut, we discovered that it won’t be available until Wednesday. For those keeping count at home, that leaves three of nine announced items released on schedule and as advertised.
