Planning to visit Disney World soon? If you’ve got a must-do attraction on your list, you’ll want to make sure that the ride will be open when you visit!
From time to time, various rides, stores, or restaurants in Disney World can close for refurbishment. Sometimes those refurbishments only last a few days and the rides quickly reopen. Other times, the refurbishments are lengthy, meaning it could be a few months before you get the chance to hop on that ride again. Recently, we shared an update about a Disney World ride that will be closing for a LONG refurbishment, and now that ride is officially CLOSED.
If you’re heading to Disney’s Animal Kingdom within the next few months, there’s something important to you need to know. Expedition Everest is now CLOSED for refurbishment and it will remain closed for several months.
We stopped by the area near Expedition Everest today to get a look at this ride now that it is closed.
On a nearby sign we saw that the ride was marked as “closed.”
Since the ride is now down, the area around it was a GHOST town! Considering the big crowds we’ve seen in Disney World recently, it felt a little strange to see this area so empty.
The attraction’s gift store, the Serka Zong Bazaar, was still open when we visited…
…though it was quite empty!
There were also certain areas of the store that were closed…
…or otherwise turned “off” since the ride is not running at the time.
It was also a bit eerie to see the mountain with an empty cave leading to the inside and no screaming guests plummeting down the drop.
It will be very interesting to see what changes or updates this lengthy refurbishment brings to this popular ride.
According to the Disney World website, the ride will be closed from now through mid-April 2022.
This is also what Cast Members near the ride were advising guests of today.
Keep in mind that Expedition Everest was one of the 2 rides available through Individual Attraction Selection (pay-per-ride) in Animal Kingdom. Now that it is not available, the Disney Genie website notes that the only pay-per-ride selection available in Animal Kingdom is Avatar Flight of Passage.
At the moment, no official reopening date for Expedition Everest has been announced, other than the general mid-April time period. If you’ll be visiting Disney World during that time period when Expedition Everest will be closed, be sure to keep this refurbishment in mind and adjust your plans!
We’ll be on the lookout for more updates and let you know what we find.
